Re: Bendikte Gabrielsen, Lacenter, Washington By Tamara Gabrielsen November 10, 2002 at 06:11:43

Hi Taryn: Thanks so much for your reply. My great grandmother's maiden name was Gabrielsen. She and my greatgrandfather were married in Norway. I just spoke with my mother, she says that my greatgrandfather's name was Hans and that we know nothing of his family.

Bendikte had two sisters, Hendrika (I'm not sure of the spelling) and Jacobena

Gene Gabrielsen

Sep 11, 2012

Gene Gabrielsen, 80, of Lebanon passed away Aug. 22 at Samaritan Albany General Hospital.

Gene was born to Edward and Ann (Small) Gabrielsen in Woodland, Wash., near “The Cold Spring” family farm near LaCenter. He spent his early years between a logging camp near Knappa and the farm at LaCenter. At 10 years of age he moved with his parents to Scio. He attended school in Scio, graduating from high school in 1950. He enjoyed sports and excelled in basketball. He went to Oregon State for one year and OIT at Klamath Falls for one year and played basketball at both schools. He was drafted into the Army during the Korean War for two years; one year of this was spent in France.

After his return from the Army, he married Lavon Humphreys in Stayton. They moved to Lebanon where he was employed by the Cascade Plywood Mill, Lebanite Plant. He was employed there almost 40 years, eventually retiring as a supervisor from Georgia Pacific.

He loved hunting and fishing. The family made many trips to Paulina and East Lakes. For many years he enjoyed hunting with his brother, John, and friends. His favorite spot was the Steens Mountains.

He and his wife bought a place in Desert Hot Springs, Calif., in 1997. They enjoyed spending their winters there for 15 years.

He was a 50-plus year member of the Scio Masonic Lodge, a life member of the Lebanon Elks and the American Legion. He was an active member of the Marguerite Chapter of the Eastern Star and was a member of the First Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Lavon; children Bill and wife Marlene Gabrielsen, Julie Diven, Tamara Gabrielsen and husband Ron Rhatigan, and Tia Judsen; grandchildren Leyla Moore, Eva and Bill Gabrielsen, George and Gabriel Devereux, and Tia, Lia and Gia Thorp; 14 great-grandchildren; and three little dogs, Dixie, Pedro and Sophie, whom he loved dearly. Also surviving are his brother, John and wife Dolores Gabrielsen; one nephew and one niece.
