Skipper Svend Taraldsen Gramstad var født på Egenæs i Stavanger i 1827. Han giftet seg med Anne Cederstrøm i 1858.

 

3. september 1886 emigrerer han fra Kristiansand. han er registrert som gift, men ingen av barna eller konen er med.

 

De fikk disse barna:

Mathilde i 1858

ingeborg 1860

Tarald 1863 - 1866

Ingeborg 1864. Hun emigrerte fra Kristiansand 13.04.1888. Ingeborg dro med sin kusine Theodora Margrethe som da                               var gift Iver Haaland.

I 1885 bor Svend og Anne på Egenæs sammen med de to yngste barna.

your Thomas Burkemo in the 1920 Census on Heritage

Quest and several SSDI on FamilySearch.org for his

children. (I can download the 1920 Census and send it

wives ---- I am assuming that you have all this.

 

BURKEMO appears to be an Americanized spelling of

something else. Since I cannot locate them in earlier

US censuses, the only way to locate them in Chicago

would be to request a City Directory Lookup (and

supply alternate spellings). It would only prove his

name spelling and occupation if he lived in Chicago.

No BURKEMO spelling (or like-sounding name) found in

Norway 1900, 1875, 1865 as a surname or farm name on

Digitalarkivet either.

 

I only checked Oslo emigration page with no luck. 

Have you tried Digitalarkivet yourself and checked all

other Emigration lists?

 

I also checked the Illinois Marriage Index 1763-1900

under both groom name and bride name as spelling (or

some sound-alikes) in all counties with no success -

in case they married in Illinois (presumably Chicago).

Some analysis: Thomas Burkemo came over in 1893, and

being 48 in 1920 census, he must have been born around

1871/1872 - and arrived as a 22 year old or so.

 

Mathilda (Tillie) came over in 1890, and being 45 in

1920 census she must have been born around 1874/1875

and so would have come as a 15 year old, possibly

traveling with elder siblings or parents. So they

both must appear in 1900 census (possibly

Chicago)under different spellings as husband and wife.

 

 

But for the eldest son to be 24 in 1920, they would

have to have been married since 1896.

 

If they were married in Chicago, their marriage

information may be found on one of the microfilms of

Norwegian Lutheran church records found at the ELCA

archives in suburban Chicago (where I found my own

relatives). Unfortunately, I don't have time (or

patience this month) to volunteer to visit it. Maybe

another Chicago-area lister could - search for

"sound-alike" spellings of Burkemo/Birkemo. (But

their marriage should also be in the online Illinois

Marriage Index, and it was not found. Another Birkemo

married a Birkemo in Chicago in 1887, too early.)

fee they will do a search for you.

 

Do you have more US information about this family then

you posted? Until we can resolve their patrynomic or

farm name spelling, we are kind of spinning our

one emigrated in 1893 (the year of Thomas emigration

in 1920 Michigan census).

(I don't subscribe to this site, so I could not look

further to see if he came alone or with family -

possibly including a Thomas.)

 

So the name may originally have been Birkemo,

Birkemoen, .... but of course these names are not in

1875 census

 

But 1865 Telling had alternate spellings birkkemo,

birkkemoe - all in Stavanger and all one family. 

Unfortunlately not yours.

 

"Storfjords Almending Birkemo" in Lyngens sogn has 21

people; "Birkemoe" Hskestad sogn in Lunde has 45

people scattered on sub-farms.

 

Sorry I could not definitively find your folks in 90

minutes. Also sorry the message is disorganized - I

recorded what I found as I thought of another source.

I am looking for information on Anna T. Tarlason born Jan 1834, Norway. came to the US in 1886.She had two sons, Olaf(Ole),born 1876,in Norway, and Sven born 1877,in Norway, and one daughter Tillie Anna, born Jan 1872,in Norway.. 
Is there any way of finding the town, that they were born in Norway?
I know that in 1900, they lived in Chicago, on Grand Ave.(Anna and Sven) Tillie was married to Thomas Burkemo. Ole was in Wisconsin.
I'm not sure that the spelling is correct- could it been Taraldson, or something else. Any ideas as to where I could look.I know that Anna had 7 children, with 3 living in 1900, all 7 born in Norway.

Svends datter Ingeborg, f. 1864 i Stavanger, gifter seg altså med en Sandberg, som hun er gift med når hun dør i Chicago i 1912.
