Hei! Prøver å finne ut litt om Jens Olson Høium sitt liv i USA. Han bodde i Bancroft ts. Freeborn Co. Minnesota. Han var født i Fresvik i Sogn i 1817 og døde i USA i 1886. Han reiste i 1871 med båten Sarah til Quebec. Han var gift med Anna Botolvsdtr. f. 1815. Jeg har god oversikt over etterkommere, men etterlyser litt biografi. Han var en svært god felespiller og han har inspirert og spilt sammen med mange gode felespillere her i Norge bl.a.Mosafinn. I USA vet jeg at han hadde besøk av selveste Ole Bull og at han var mye brukt som spillemann.

Takk for dette! Jeg fikk vel disse opplysningene av deg på DIS-forumet og jeg har hatt glede av dem, men jeg skulle gjerne hatt mer om Jens sin virksomhet i USA. Det er en liten artikkel i ei bok som er på trappene. Finnes det kanskje fora i US der jeg kunne etterlyse slikt eller komme i kontakt med etterkommere?

Bernard O. Hoium

Died: Wed., May 6, 2009

 

Bernard Orville Hoium was born on Dec. 19, 1920 in Bancroft township the son of Severt and Goodelia Lovig Hoium. He was baptized and confirmed at East Freeborn Lutheran Church where he has been a lifelong member. He attended rural school in Freeborn County. On June 9, 1946 Bernard was united in marriage to Marjorie Mickelson at East Freeborn. Bernard farmed with his father and took over the work of the family farm. Bernard loved farming and all that goes with tending the land. He was an active member of the church and enjoyed time spent with his family and many friends. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; children: Del Hoium, Rollin and wife Nancy Hoium, Ross and wife Kris Hoium and Bill and wife Anita Hoium. Grandchildren: Brian, Philip, Todd, Scott, Erin, Katelyn, Brett and Ryan Hoium. 3 step-grandchildren; Chris, Tim and Michael Flores and 3 step-great-grandchildren; Tommy, Maria and Sophia. Brothers-in-law; Bob and wife Louise Mickelson and Gerald and wife Darlene Mickelson. Cousin Richard Hoium and several nieces and nephews. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Genevieve LuVerne Nesse and Carmen Richard Barnick

Marjorie Oline Hoium was born on December 17, 1924 to Luther and Olive Toft Mickelson in Bath Township of Freeborn County. Marjorie graduated from Albert Lea High School and attended Mankato Business College. She was employed at Wilson & Co. in the bookkeeping department, then Queen Products and Universal Co-op. Marjorie was united in marriage to Bernard Hoium on June 9, 1946 at East Freeborn Lutheran Church. Marjorie was a very active member at East Freeborn Lutheran Church. She participated in the music and church choir, quilting, and held an office with Lutheran Brotherhood. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and attending luncheons with her retired Universal co-workers. Survivors include her children, Del Hoium, Rollin and wife Nancy Hoium, Ross and Kris Hoium, and Bill and wife Anita Hoium; grandchildren, Brian, Philip and wife Amanda, Todd, Scott, Erin, Katelyn, Brett and Ryan Hoium; 4 step-grandchildren, Danny Atkins, Chris, Tim and Michael Flores; 3 step-great-grandchildren, Tommy, Maria and Sophia; brothers, Bob and wife Louise Mickelson and Gerald and wife Darlene Mickelson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Bernard.
