Historic Vehicle Registration

Hello all,

I have a couple of old Land Rovers. Or at least, most of them! I have the chassis numbers, but no registration numbers, and the chassis numbers don't come up on Statens Vegvesen.

I think one of them may have been registered in the Hordaland/Sogn district, the other was collected from down south-east of Oslo. No paperwork on either of them. 

Where should I start looking for details of registration numbers, ownership, age etc.? I haven't a clue...:-)

Thanks, Hans, I'm already a member, but I haven't found anyone who's an 'expert' on this. I know the information is in the Statsarkiv somewhere, I just don't know where to look...

Well done, Hans! That's exactly what I was looking for, seems they have a central register for all Norway in Steinkjer, I'll fire them off an email with the chassis numbers.

The armed forces used Land Rovers, they may have had military plates. If you don't get any info from current sources, you could contact the army.

Thanks, Olaf, but the numbers I have come up as: 4713****, which is  4-1954, 7-Land Rover, 1-86 inch, 3-LHD Export. 

1147***** which is 1-All Models, 14- Series 1, 7- 1957, the remaining numbers being the serial number. So I have a 1954 and an early 1957, both LHD, which fits with them being here in Norway. If the Norwegian Army used Land Rovers back in the '50's, (did they?) it's possible they started out in the Military here, but they would, I imagine, have had a 'civilian life' afterwards.
