Thanks for reminding me of post # 9 above, I'm just trying to document this correctly. I need to pull up a map from that time period just to see the location and understand all the different churches.

The baptismal entry translates as:

"2nd Sunday in Advent [i.e., 10 December 1797]. Church service in Lunder.

  . . . .

Baptized boy Gulbran, parents Ole Pedersen Schøyeneje [and living at Schøyeneje] and Kari [not Mari] Olsdtr. Witnesses. . . "

This is the same person listed in the 1801 census at Schøyen as Gulbran Olsen, age 3, son of Ole Pedersen and Kari Hansdatter (person #18 at https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/person/pf01058261002574)

Please be aware that, according to the 1801 census, there were four different Gulbran Olsens in Jevnaker clerical district born in the late 1790s (besides the son of Ole Pedersen, you also have a son of Ole Gundersen at Jevnager priest's farm, age 6; a son of Ole Iversen at Greftegrev farm, age 3; and a son of Ole Erichsen at Huuser farm, age 2). Given that the age of 70 shown in the death record is very approximate, how do you know which of these 4 Gulbran Olsens is yours?

Just so I have this right, Ole Pedersen and Kari Hansdatter NOT (Kari Olsdatter) are the parents of Gulbrand Olsen born around Dec 1797 in Jevnaker and was baptised Dec 10th, 1797 in Lunder, Jevnaker?

You can be sure that Ole Pedersen is this Gulbrand Olsen's father. We have conflicting information on his mother - the baptismal record clearly says Kari Olsdatter, and the 1801 census says Kari Hansdatter. You would need to find other records (for example, baptism of other children of theirs - 3 others were listed in the 1801 census - or their marriage record) to see which of these two patronyms is correct.

As for the place - I have to correct a previous mistake of mine, I now see that Lunner (formerly spelled Lunder) is now a separate municipality and not part of Jevnaker municipality.

Some background: in the 18th century there were not enough ministers/priests for each church to have its own priest. So usually 2 to 4 churches/parishes (called "sogn" or "sokn" in Norwegian) were combined into a clerical district (called "prestegjeld" in Norwegian) served by a single priest. In the 18th and 19th century, Lunner (then called Lunder) and Jevnaker parishes were both part of Jevnaker clerical district. This is why you will see "Lunder, Jevnaker, Oppland" - that means Lunder parish in Jevnaker clerical district in Oppland county. These days, though, Lunner is a separate municipality within Oppland county, so if you want to call the place according to current geography, you would say Lunner, Oppland.

The 1797 baptismal record lists the father as Ole Pedersen Schøyeneje, so this Gulbrand Olsen was born at what is now Skøyenenga in Lunner parish/municipality (not in Jevnaker parish/municipality).

Thank you for explaining the parish and clerical districts, this is very helpful for me.  I will investigate the other siblings to see if I can find their birth records.

Looking back at this conversation, I now see a discrepancy with Gulbran's mothers last name.  The baptismal entry translation stated Kari [not Mari] Olsdtr.  But in the 1801 census you have given, it list her as  Kari Hansdatter?  I appreciate your help Carl-Henry.

Yes, which is why I said this:

For example, if you look for at the baptism of Sigri Olsdatter, their first daughter (listed as age 11 in the 1801 census), on 18 Oct 1789 (https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20070603810115, right-hand side, second entry from top), you will see that she is listed as daughter of Ole Pedersen and Kari Hansdatter.

So I believe Hansdatter is the correct patronym for her.

My bad Carl-Henry, sometimes I get so excited that I don't always go back and read the whole conversation!  Thanks again 😊
