Jon Olofsson Haard het han egentlig Jon Ellingsson og var Bergensrådmann ?

I et skiftebrev fra Haard og Friis ætten nevnes Anna Jonsdatter Haard's bror, Hallstein Jonsson. Ved søk i Diplomer finnes kun to

Hallstein Jonsson. En blir for gammel, og en annen passer tidsmessig helt perfekt. Den yngre var sønn av Bergensrådmannen

Jon Ellingsson. (b.06 s.792.Nr.757.30 Nov.1544) Hallstein Jonsson kjøper Gertrud Bakerskone sin gård. (En Jon Olofsson bekreftes ikke av

de svenske kildene.) (https://www.dokpro.uio.no/perl/middelalder/diplom_vise_tekst_2016.prl?b=6508&s=n&str)

Er dette en mer passende kandidat ?

Mvh Knut

Please forgive me for replying in English (I can read Norwegian, but cannot write it).

I presume with this you mean the document of 16 Oct 1665 that is quoted by K. S. Kleppe in "Nils Christensen paa Gjersviks ætt og etterslekt," NST 16 (1957), on pp. 19-20. Didn't Kleppe interpret this letter to say that Hallstein Jonsson (Haldsten Joenßen) was the brother not of Fru Anne Jonsdatter Haard, but of her grandfather Nils Jonsson til Gjersvik?

As far as I can tell, the only things we know about Nils Jonsson are that he was the husband of hustru Adelus Kruckow til Gjersvik (as noted later in a 1572 court case in Bergen), was dead by 1562 (when, according to Kleppe, hustru Adelus was referred to as a widow in a Bergen document), and was the father of Jon Haard the elder. Both the 1562 and the 1572 documents suggest that hustru Adelus (and, by inference, her husband Nils Jonsson) had some connection to Bergen (not surprising, given that it was the main city in Norway at the time). The fact that both his wife (very frequently referred to as hustru) and his son ("til" Eriksfjord) were noble also suggest that Nils himself was noble. We don't know anything else about the Hallstein Jonsson mentioned in the 1665 document other than that he was somehow connected to this family (per Kleppe, presumably as Nils Jonsson's brother).

The reason Kleppe seized upon Jon Oluffson (named 1534) as a possible father for Nils Jonsson (and thus presumably Hallstein Jonsson as well) was that Kleppe wanted to explain the origin of Jon Haard the elder's family name, and (at least according to a Danish Adelslexikon) Jon Oluffson used exactly the same coat-of-arms (våpen) as Jon Haard. In my opinion, this is a fairly weak argument, as it is not clear to me from where the Adelslexikon got its information (how trustworthy is it that Jon Oluffson actually had that våpen?).

But any attempt to find another candidate for Nils Jonsson's father will also have to account for the origin of Jon Haard's family name (which, admittedly, might have come from Nils Jonsson's mother) as well as the apparent fact that Nils Jonsson was noble.

Trying to identify Hallstein Jonsson is certainly a novel and praiseworthy approach to trying to find Nils Jonsson's father. And the Hallstein Jonsson you have found definitely is a possible fit based upon time frame and general geography. But how many other Hallstein Jonssons might there have been in early 1500s in the Bergen area who simply did not leave a trace in the preserved documents (Hallstein may be a rare name today, but apparently was not that rare in late medieval Norway)? So, what is there that might tie this Hallstein Jonsson and his father Jon Ellingson to Nils Jonsson and the Haard family? In particular, was Jon Ellingson noble, and if so, what do we know about his våpen?

The Swedish Haard family's coat of arms was a Bull's head.The Haard's of Haardanger had 3 Lilile's :)

I imagine they could have taken this Haard(..ing) name when/if they moved from Bergen to Hardanger ?

Det forklarer at Austerheim

finnes i etterslekta.
