Tollef Martin was born 19 May 1874 to Sten Johannesen Nereim and Guri Tørrisdtr in Ølen, Hordaland: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20061221670416, #56

In the 1875 census, he is listed with his parents, two brothers, and a sister at Lille Nereim in Ølen: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/census/rural-residence/bf01052266001183

His father died 9 May 1876 (https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20061221670573, #37), and his mother (who did not remarry) died 19 May 1879 (https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20050809031274, Kvindekjøn #7).

Tollef Martin Stensen was confirmed in Ølen 9 September 1888 (https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20050809031206, #2); in this entry he was listed as living at Vestereide, which is where his maternal grandfather Tørres Tolleivsson (1814-1890) and maternal uncle Torkel Tørresson (1860-1900) lived.

I have not found him among the Utflyttede in the Ølen/Fjeldberg churchbooks (https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20050809031321), but the database of Emigranter over Bergen lists a Tollef Martin Stensen Vestereide, born 1874 in Fjeldberg prestegjeld (which included Ølen sokn), as leaving 6 Oct 1890 (https://www.digitalarkivet.no/view/9/og00000000683114). Nobody else registered in Bergen on the same day.

I have located his three siblings (all of whom emigrated on their own) in America:

1) sister Brita Johanne Stensdatter (born 1866, emigrated 1881) married Frederick Landgraff in Chicago 16 October 1897 (https://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&dbid=2556&h=1569007&ssrc=pt&tid=115335600&pid=280157355830&usePUB=true) and died in Chicago 15 August 1958 (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QVRN-SRSH; the informant Theresa R. Lindseth was her maternal cousin, daughter of Serene Tørresdatter, who emigrated to Chicago 1878).

2) brother Tørres Stensen (born 1868, emigrated 1885) became Thomas Nerheim in America and lived as a blacksmith in Aurora, IL (about 55 km west of Chicago), where he died 19 September 1943 (https://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&dbid=60722&h=690375&ssrc=pt&tid=115335600&pid=280157355156&usePUB=true ).

3) brother Johannes Stensen (born 1872, emigrated after 1891) became John Nerheim in America and died 9 September 1904 in Chicago (https://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&dbid=60722&h=4807044&ssrc=pt&tid=115335600&pid=280157355959&usePUB=true)

But I have not been able to find Tollef Martin in America. Any ideas on where he might have ended up?

Thanks!

Death record at Bethlehem [Norwegian] Lutheran Church in Chicago: https://www.ancestry.com/interactive/60722/41742_314873-00782?pid=218069, # 27

Gives his age as 17 9/12, which would mean birth in May 1874 - very good match.

Thank you for finding him so quickly!!
