Bent Christoferson - Jacob Edwards

I am trying to get information about two sets of people.

First, one of my relatives is Bent Christoferson.  The 1865 census information shows that he was born in Botne and that he continued to live there with his family. He was married to Anne Nilsdatter.  the information shows that she was born in Tins.  Anne and Bent had five children.  i have seen information showing that he died in 1866.  U.S. Census information shows that the rest of the family left Norway in 1867 or 1868.

I tried finding some parish records to get more information about Bent and Anne, but I could not find anything.

Second, I found an Illinois marriage certificate that seems to show that Bent's and Anne's daughter, Amelia, married Jacob Edwards in LaSalle County in 1879.  Parts of the certificate are written in cursive.  I can clearly see that Jacob's father's first name is Bjorn.  It is hard to make out the last name but it might be Parvenik or something like that.  His mother's name is listed as Anna.  He was about 25 in 1880.  I can find other documents about Jacob that have spots for someone to enter information about Jacob's parents, but those spots are left blank.

I would like some help getting more information about Bent and Anne.  I want to know when and where Bent died and whether there is information about the family's move to America.

I am also trying to see whether there is any information about Jacob and his parents.

There is a Jakob Andreas, born 16 June 1857 who emigrated with his mother from Stavanger on 18/5 1872 https://www.digitalarkivet.no/view/291/pu00000000069434 . He was the son of Ingeborg Sofie Taraldsdatter, born 8 Dec 1824, from Egersund. https://www.digitalarkivet.no/view/291/pu00000000069433

His father had absconded to the USA earlier.

Here they were moving from Egersund to Stavanger 30 Nov 1863 https://www.digitalarkivet.no/view/291/pu00000000005900

and here is his father Anders Berntsen, born 1835 https://www.digitalarkivet.no/view/291/pu00000000005898

and his mother https://www.digitalarkivet.no/view/291/pu00000000005899

Could Anders Berntsen become son of Bjørn?

Here is another candidate, Jakob Andreas Pareli, born 5 July 1856 in Bjugn. Pareli looks very similar to Panevill, although his father was called Johan Tørresen (his mother was called Anne Kathrine Jensdatter, so the mothers name would match) https://www.digitalarkivet.no/view/255/pd00000004633261

Have not seen any other Jakob Andreas that seem likely candidtes (so far).

I think we should ignore the last candidate, here he is in the census in Norway in 1875.https://www.digitalarkivet.no/census/person/pf01052364001575

it might be worth going through other candidates with the combination Jacob and Andreas, of course there is no guarantee that he was called Jacob Andreas in the 1865 census or at birth.  https://www.digitalarkivet.no/search/persons/advanced?page=5&from=&to=&firstname=jacob andreas&lastname=&birth_year_from=1853&birth_year_to=1857&birth_date=&birth_place=&domicile=&position=&event_year_from=&event_year_to=&event_date=&related_first_name=&related_last_name=&related_birth_year=&sort=rel

Since he immigrated in 1863, he would not be found in the 1865 census in Norwat (if the immigration year is correct). But he might be found with some or both of his parents in an earlier record in the US, he would have been 8 years old when he arrived, if the dates are correct.

Do you have a link to the

marriage certificate?

One thing to be aware of: The birth dates vary significantly. I have seen one record where he was born as late as 1857, and with immigration as early as 1860. In other words, the birth and immigration years should not be trusted, we should probably allow for a few years on either siden.

Based on the 1920 census, he was also using the name John A Edwards (it has to be the same person, as his wife was Molly and he had daughters Saide and Marie. Otherwise this would be too much of a coincidence). https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9RXW-CQL?personaUrl=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AM8BT-T2S

Egil,

it could be, but there is also an Andrew Edwards living in Illinois in the 1900 census: Adams Township Leland vill., La Salle, Illinois, United States https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-67D3-SKH?i=20&cc=1325221

So there is also a possibility that the Andrew in the 1870 census is identical to this Andrew in the 1900 census.

MerknaderFolio 10 synes å mangle i protokollen. Oppslaget 9b-11a viser derfor dåpsbarn nr. 1-10 for 1857 (folio 9b / venstre side) og faddere til dåpsbarn nr. 11-23 for 1857 (folio 11a / høyre side).

Thank you for your help.

i need some more help, but i am not sure that this is the right forum.

Can you give me some advice on how you found the baptism records for the children?  i tried doing a search from the main screen, but i could not access what you provided.  Aslaug married Nils Halvorsen when she moved to Illinois.  I did a search on his name, and I could find sometimes where he appeared as a godparent.  Is it possible that the records I want to review have not been transcribed and that I will just have to search through the handwritten church books?

Also, is it possible to get a transcription of the names of the people listed as godparents?  i have a hard time making out the names, but some of them appear to be Christoferson or Nilsdatter and I hope I might be able to research those people with the hope they lead to more information about Bent and Aslaug.  I understand that this question might have a similar answer to the previous question.

I noticed that Bent's name was often followed by Greager but at his death it was followed by Rod.  Is this because he moved?

Also, sometimes Greager was followed by Nordre Eje.  What would that indicate?

Lastly, I found some research that indicated that many Norwegians from Tinn moved to LaSalle County Illinois, which is where Aslaug and the children went.  Any ideas of whether it is likely that Jacob Edwards also came from Tinn? i am wondering whether I should concentrate on Tinn when I continue to look for Jacob.

Again, thanks.
