Mads Henriksen - more information needed

According to the census of 1875 for the county of Sogn og Fjordane, shown below

https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/person/pf01052314003993

there is a Mads Henriksen.

My great grandfather named Mads Henriksen sailed from Copenhagen and lived in Charleston, SC. Someone in Ancestry.com has associated the Mads Henriksen in the census with my ancestor. I know that the same name does not make him the same person. Does anyone have information on the Mads Henriksen in the 1875 census? My ancestor married an Irish woman in Charleston named Hanora Hogan and they had my grandfather Michael Henrik Henriksen also known as Michael Bernard Henriksen.

I have been to Norway and believe it is the most beautiful of all the countries I have visited. I have also visited Iceland and the settlement in Canada at L'Anse aux Meadow where a Nordic village has been reconstructed.

Thank you for reading my request.

Here are some likely records  on the Mads Henriksen you are interested in.

Married and still living in Sogn og Fjordane in 1910 Census

Likely died in Sogn og Fjordane in 1923.

Not sure why the 1910 Census has his birth date as 5-30 1857. The original record shows Nov 30, 1857.

there is a Mads Henriksen.

This Mads seems to stay in Norway as a farmer

here in 1900: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/pf01037358000627

and here in 1910: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/pf01036732000881

probably not your great grandfather!

Anton and Richard:

Thank you for the research. That definitely proves the Norwegian Mads Henriksen is not my ancestor. I appreciate your help very much. Too many people assume that is individuals had the same name, they must be the same person.

The Mads Henriksen shown above by Richard as  arriving June 1888 is a very interesting find.  And he is the only likely candidate that I have been able to find. However he is shown arriving about three years after the birth of the first child Michael born 1885.

This would seem to be a good fit for him leaving Denmark,  Ship is the same ship the Hekla and the date of leaving fits well with the arrival date. But the birth year is way off.  As is the destination. But the record does give a Denmark location.

Based on the location in the emigration record above this might be a good candidate for him. Would he be a good candidate for your Mads remains to be seen.

Of interest in the case of Mads Henriksen Velling is that he had two brothers  both of whom came to America. One them ended up in California and the other Ole ended up in Nebraska.

The record of Mads Henriksen arriving 1 June 1888 is one I have discussed with other Henriksen relatives. One thought was he had returned to Denmark for some reason. I don't know if that is a reasonable answer. I have obtained some information from the Catholic Church in Charleston but their archives are currently closed. We have been told, when young, that he fell from a church he where he was working on placing a cross on the roof and died from injuries. It was almost easier finding information about relatives who arrived in 1752 in Charleston. My cousin had a letter from Denmark dated around 1914 but has lost it due to illness and moving. My sister said our grandfather corresponded with relatives in Denmark before World War II but got no responses after the war. I do appreciate the effort of those who have contributed information.

This has all been very helpful. Anton, where do you find the information listed as Denmark Church Records, Denmark, Select Baptisms and the emigration index.

Frank, I apologize for not thanking you.

Stay well and stay happy.
