I am wondering if the person who died on August 27, 1766 was Ole Povelsen -- I can't make out the age of death but am thinking the child was very young and possibly was the Ole Povelsen born in 1766.

Ole Povelsen (the first child to be named Ole Povelsen) was born 1766-01-16: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20070926660667. Right hand side, second row from the bottom. Does the text in the extreme right hand column say "Ole Roske"? If so, what does that designate?

The second child to be named Ole Povelsen by the same parents was born 1768 September 9. Some of the sponsors are the same.https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20070926660675. Right hand side, 7th row down. Baptized 11th of September?

Is Røsche the same as Røske?

Takk

It looks to me like Ole Røsche. The first sponsors are Ragnille et Jens Røsche. Maybe this was an important man, and Ole was named after him?

Probably the dead child in the first link: Ole Povelsen Røsche-something [-vallet?]. Can’t read the age, but if it is the same Ole he should be aprox. 1/2 year old.

Second child: Born the 4th, baptised the 11th of september.  Several Røsche as sponsors. And, yes, modern spelling could be Røske.

It seems that the pattern followed here is that the farm name as surname follows the child (right-hand margin), while parents are identified with forename and patronymicon.

The child's patronymicon is known from the father (mentioned) and the parents' surname/farm name is known from the child. No need to repeat and use space (ink and paper) on double information.  Thus, baby Ole with parents lived at "Røsche"  and neighbours were sponsors.

The farm name is written Røskje at the map today; just north of Røra in Inderøy kommune)

I believe this child born in 1868 might be the person who had a child with Brynil Nielsdatter 5 Sept 1795. The child's name is given as Jens Røstad. In the transcription, the transcriber has added the second name as "Olsen," with residence at Rødstad. All these children are illegitimate, so it is hard to be sure about the lineage.

https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20070927610013  Note that that the surname for one of the sponsors is "Røstad."

I am particularly interested since my maiden name is "Rostad" (english version).
