I have hit a brick wall finding more information about Marit Solfestsdatter and her mother/father. Below is the info I have found so far and I attached some documents as well.

 

I have a VPN so if you reference anything from the Norwegian Archives I will be able to open it.

Birth: 1824 Hofsbakken in Lom (Marriage certificate states she was born on Vassnesset)

Death: Unknown?

Confirmation: Says she was confirmed at Tørhaug

Marriage: Elias Peter Gabrielsen 11 Oct 1859 at Åfjord, Sør-Trøndelag

Children: Sivert b. 1860, Tina b. 1863, Ole b. 1863, Mina b. 1865, Lars b. 1867

Hofsbakken (born here I believe) 

Tørhaug, Åfjorden (confirmed here, but haven't found proof)

You do not have a lot of candidates. The most likely for Thorø Sølvestdatter is this one born about 1790 in the 1801 Census. Needs some checking before you can be sure.

I tried the online bygdabooks for Sjåk, but could not find any obvious candidate, maybe need to check them better.

 

Here is a good candidate for Sølfest Hansen in FT1801:

The birth year for Thore Sylfestensdatter is a little early. Her marriage record shows 1798. But I can not find a candidate with that birth year.

Anton, I cheked up in the bygdabook and found Ramstad, but there is a different husband for Torø there.

Yes, the distance between the birth date for Thore of 1790 and the marriage  birth year of  1798 has always made me wonder if I did not have the wrong one.

 

I wonder what this is? Torø born 1798 Nr. 3. Father looks like Solfest Jacobsen Dalen?

Looks like the couple had a second child in 1801.

Regarding Sylfest Hansen and Thorø Sylfestdtr. and their children. (all children born in Sjåk, Oppland, these were those I spotted)

• Live bn 12 Aug 1820
• Marith bn 17 Aug 1823
• Marith bn 14 Dec  1824
• Hans bn 22 Aug 1828
• Torstein bn 6 Mar 1831
• Margrethe bn 24 Nov 1833
• Hans bn 2 Jan 1836

(A timegap between Marith the younger in 1824 and Hans in 1828, possible another child ?)

 

My guess is that at least one of these children (Marith bn 1823? or/and Hans bn 1828?) died young, without me checking the churchbooks.

 

I checked both the moving out from Lom and moving into Aafjord in the churchbooks, without spotting the family.

 

Several moved from Lom to Aafjord witout any match of the names in this family.

 

They must have moved prior to Marit's confirmation in Aafjord and after the birth of the child Hans in 1836.

 

Marit was born late in 1824 giving this timeframe of moving most likely 1837-1841. Checking the confirmation of Marith in Aafjord and the chuchbooks in Sjåk looking for deaths and confirmation may give an more accurate timeframe of the moving fram Sjåk to Aafjord.

 

(See two aswers below from Aafjord church book, birth of daugther Trine Sophie. They came to Aafjord in 1838)

 

I belive that Sjåk has an active historical society, that maybe it is worth to ask or maybe some at this forum has local knowledge of the area.

I now found two births in Aafjord, the first one is of special interst as it states when they came to the parish.

The family has been entered on geni.com with sources Ættebøkene for Skjåk (Family books of Skjåk), page 112 in #1, and corrections/additions based on the church records/censuses etc.

Sylfest born Nov. 1790 at Hove in Skjåk, died Nov.6th, 1858 in Åfjord.

Torø born March 1798 at Dalen in Skjåk, death date unknown. 

Married April 20, 1820 in Skjåk. 

They had 8 children together, and Sylfest also had a son before he got married to Torø.

Personally I will not use places like Geni.com as the only source of information,

 

Like in this case it may be a great place that works as a fast track toward the more reliable sources like church books and censuses.

 

Bygdabooks is more reliable than Geni.com in my eyes, but they as well should be checked, against more primary sources.

Here you see the bygdabook miss out on the Marit born in 1823. But a great tool for further checking.

If you go into the link below, you see the location of Aafjord where it is written Trøndelag, the letters Trø is about where Åfjord is loaced.
