OBITUARY

Pelican Rapids, MN

EARLY RESIDENT OF THAT COMMUNITY CALLED AFTER LINGERING ILLNESS

August Olson died at four o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H.O. Hanson where he has been cared for for the past several months. He has been ill with heart trouble and complications incident to his age.

August Olson was born in Sweden Nov. 20, 1857 and came to the US over fifty years ago. He is one of the well\ell known old timers of his community.

Surviving are his wife, who lives with a daughter, Mrs. Hjalmer Dahl in Duluth; and three daughters and two sons. The daughters besides Mrs. Dahl are Hannah, residing in South Dakota and Ruby in St Paul; and the sons, Dr. A.O. Olson of Salem, Ore. and Lawrence Olson of Lightfoot, Va.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon from the Pelican Valley church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Obituary for Mrs. Maren Olson

Last Rites Held on Saturday with Interment Being Made at Concord

   Maren Mathea Olson, daughter of Eric Anderson Holt and Mathea Strom Holt was born May 12, 1864 in Sands Sogn, Vestre Odalen (near Oslo) Norway.

   She died unexpectedly Monday evening, May 10th, 1948, at 10:25 from a heart attack at the age of 83 years, 11 months, 28 days in St. Mary's hospital, Rochester, where she entered the same day for observation following an illness of two weeks.  She had not been in the best of health the past few years.

   She with her husband and two children, came to America in 1888 and located in Pelican Rapids, Minn.  Her husband, four children and one brother, Peter, preceded her in death.

   Mrs. Olson, a member of the Pelican Valley Lutheran church was active in Sunday school work, Ladies' Aid and church choir.
   She had chosen for the Scripture text Chapter John 14 and song “Behold a Host, Arrayed in White.”
   She was a quiet and unassuming woman whose kindly nature and gentleness endeared her to all who knew her.  Memories of her life will be cherished by those who were privileged to be with her.
   She had made her home the past years with her sons in law and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Dahl, Duluth, Minn., and Mr. And Mrs. Roy Bringgold, West Concord.

   Mrs. Olson leaves to mourn her passing five children, Dr. O.A. Olson, Salem, Oregon; Mrs. H. C. Dahl, Duluth, Minn., Mrs. Roy Bringgold, West Concord, Minn., Edward Lawrence Olson, Lightfoot, Virginia, who was unable to be present, and Mrs. John Newberg, Los Angeles, Calif., five grandchildren, two great grandchildren and two brothers, Louie and Ole, Pelican Rapids, Minn., other relatives and a host of friends.  

   The services were held at the Roy Bringgold home, Saturday at 1:30 PM and in the Concord Christian church at 2 PM.  Rev. Noah Garwick conducted the services, assisted by her former pastor, Rev. Egge, of Dennison, Minn.
   Mrs. Thelma Pirkl and Mrs. Marion Jones sang “In the Garden” and “An Old Rugged Cross” and Mrs. Egge sang “Behold a Host, Arrayed in White”, all were accompanied by Mrs. R. B. Wray.

    Messrs. Ernest Miller, Martin Langemo, Fred Zeller, Ralph Jones, Chas. Andrews and Forrest Cahpin were pallbearers.  D. McGowan and C.J. Ferguson, morticians.

   Interment was made in the Concord cemetery, West Concord.
