Andersen in the area of Moss

Hey,

My name is Luca and I am from Germany. That's why I don't speak Nowegian. I do love genealogy and am looking for some help with my newly found Norwegian ancestors. Two days ago, I already asked something in an other forum on this website, but I was told that it is only for translating texts. It could be that the text in the forum is referring to my 5th great grandfather Ole Andersen from Moss!?

 

These are the only things I know, so far:

 

My 4th great grandfather is Christian Andersen

*circa 1773

† 20. Feburary 1823, Kellinghusen/Germany

 

Christian Andersen married Anna, nee Ratjen, on 23. November 1806 in Kellinghusen

 

My 5th great grandparents (Christians parents) are mentioned in his birth and death certificate as Ole & Margaretha Andersen from Moss in Norway.

 

Unfortunately, I do not know, if Christian Andersen was born in Norway or Germany.

 

Besides, I don't have any information about his parents, except their names and that they came from Moss.

But I guess, that the approximate time period could be also helpful. As Christian was born around the year 1773, I would say that his parents could have been lived from about 1750 to the beginning of the 19th century.

Have not found Christian in Moss, but in the same time period, there is an Ole Andersen and wife Margrethe Riber who baptize a daughter Catrine in Moss on March 4, 1767

The same couple had a son, Christian, born in January 1770 (middle of right page):

Note that Ole Andersens wife is referred to as both "Margrethe" and "Birgit Cathrine" Riber in different sources. Here she is in the 1801 census with two daughters (including Cathrine), as a widow:

Judging by the length of his probate record, he was a merchant of at least some means (I have not read the details, but his widow is referred to as Birgithe Cathrine):

Christian would have been 13 at this time, so probably no hope of finding any information about him moving to Germany in here to verify if this is the person you are looking for.

Sorry to say that the above mentioned Christian Andersen, son of Ole Andersen and Margrethe/Birgithe Catherine Riber in Moss does not seem to be the man you are looking for. He moved to Namsos and married a woman named Margrethe Biørn.

As far as I can tell from the church records, there is no other sign of any Ole Andersen married to a Margrethe in Moss in the 1700s. Records start in the 1720s, so that should be sufficient to capture a couple having a son in the 1770s. Of course, when "Moss" is used as a reference in another country, it could potentially refer to a larger rural area (and several other parishes) in the vicinity. Alternatively, Ole A. and Margrethe from Moss could have been married and had Christian somewhere else entirely.
