Interpretation of scanned material.

Greetings forum members. I trust you are well. I have another request for your help. I have found a birth record for my 4th great grandmother, Martha Didrichsdatter. It appears to indicate that my 5th great grandfather is Didrich Svanes. Would one of you please transcribe the following entry (located at the bottom of the far right column)? I am trying to determine Didrich's surname, and hopefully find my 5th great grandmother, as well. Best regards always, Richard Neil Jacobsen

Yes. Far left column.  My mistake. So, Didrich Svanaes is Marthe's father. And, Madme Maren Tollagsdatter is her mother? Tusen takk Ivar.

No. Marthe was baaret – båret (not Borne as you misquoted above)  – carried (to be baptized) by Madame Maren the wife of Tollag Haaland. They wrote it this way: Maren Tollag Haalands, the s being the genitive ‹mark›.

Right.  "baaret af"  means carried/held by - at the ceremony; there is a potential for misunderstanding.

Mdm Maren was the godmother - not the mother.

Thank you Even. That certainly clears-up what could have become a broken branch in our tree. I have reason to believe that my 5th great grandfather is: Didrik Toresen Svånes 1703–1784;  BIRTH 09.12.1703 • Svanes, Eigersund;  DEATH 03 MAY 1784 • Svånes, Eigersund.  And, my 5th great grandmother is: Siri Helgesdatter RØYSLAND 1720–1801;  BIRTH 1720 • Heskestad;  DEATH 25.12.1801 • Svanes, Eigersund

 

But, of course, I will not include this information until I am reasonably certain of its accuracy.
