Looking for Olaus Walter 1816

Doing a family search, looking for a Olaus Wolter or Walter born in Horton Norway in 1816, married Maja Lena Xstindr in Fjaras, Halland Sweden 30th Dec 1845, and also working for their Son James Walters born 1857 in Horten Norway, recorded arriving in Sydney Austalia on the 16th August 1878 on the ship Patriach.

This Olaus is not from Horten, Norway. He was born 1816.08.15 in Tölö, Sweden:

Here you can see the names/birthdates of their children, and notes saying if any of them emigrated. A lot of the children went to North America.

 

The only child born in 1857 was Carl Magnus, which does not sound like something that would be changed to "James". He is reported as emigrating to "Amerika" in 1875. I guess Johan August born 1855 could be a better match name-wise, but according to the HFL above he was still in Sweden in 1878.

Johan August Wålther married Miliana Schenia Mattsson in 1882 and they moved to Tölö in 1887, according to the second ”husförhör” record above, covering the years 1870-1890.

 

Here is the family recorded during the years 1850-1860, with no mentioning of the family moving to Norway.

If a person or family travelled from Horten, Norway, to Australia in 1878, there is apparently no connection to this family in Fjärås, Sweden.

do you have any more details on the arrival records for James on the 16th August 1878 on the ship Patriarch, or about the rest of his family (parents and/or siblings) in Australia?

 

The family that Matthias mentioned that emigrated in 1887 had at least a son called Alfred Jakob, which could easily be anglcized to James. Of course, it appears that Alfred Jakob was born in 1880, so he appears way too young.

 

I think it would be very useful if you could provide more details or records of the family from Australia, then it might be easier to find the right family in Norway (or Sweden).
