Jorine Cecilie (not sure the last name, Knutsdatter it should have been), Lauritz Knutson, and Thore Knutson questions

Hello again,

I found that Jorine Cicilie lived in Ohio, in the USA, but nothing beyond that.  I had seen that at one point her last name was Thorson and I'm sure why as her parents were Knute Thorson and Dorthea L. Hertervig.  Didn't the Daughters use their Father's first name and add Datter etal to it, so hers should have been Knutsdatter?

I know both Lauritz and Thore used their Father's first name and just added son to it.  Anyway, I can't find anything on Thore Knutson since he came to the USA, and because I know that Jorine died in Ohio. Below is what I found on her  Birth: Mar 17, 1867, Stavanger, Rogaland, Norway; Death December 29, 1964, Trumbull, Trumbull Cty, Ohio. I can't find a grave, obituary, no family members, nothing more on her, and I would so love to meet the family of my Grandfather's Sister.

As for Thore All I can find is that he was born Sept. 29, 1865, Domkirken, Stavanger, Rogaland, Norway

I also know that Thore and Jorine went to live with Dorthea's sister, while Lauritz went to live with his Father's sister. (Below the info on this)

1. Thore, born 1865, lived with aunt Cecilie Ommundsen in 1875, in Stavanger.
2. Jorine Cecilie, born 1867 lived with aunt Cecilie Ommundsen in 1875, in Stavanger.
3. Lauritz, born 1869,  lived with aunt Astrid Thorsdatter in  1875, in Årdal in Ryfylke.

I am so hoping I can find out further information on where Thore and Jorine may have ended up (Jorine, as I mentioned, was in Ohio, but Thore I'm not sure about)

Thank you in advance, I hope I'm able to further my tree and find some of my relatives on Thore and Jorine's side.  I only wish my Dad was still alive, he so wanted to find out the family history, but died before I could find very much, so I'm doing this because of him...and for his memory.

Yes that is true, most of the time. But there are many cases where the children for whatever reason ended up using the same last name as their father. The two children Jorine and Thore seem to have been separated from their parents early in life and adopted the last name of their father ie Thorsen. The other child Lauritz used the Norwegian naming practice and was know as Lewis Knutson.

Thank you all so very much, you have no idea how much this means to me.  I am going to research all of those and see what I can find.

And thank you for the understanding of why she and her brother had a different last name than their younger brother (my Grandfather).

Thank you, again, there are not enough words to tell you what this means to me

I wish I did, unfortunately I don't because I know that is my Grandfather' obituary is in the Scout, and I was hoping to see if Thore (the main one I am trying to find) was listed in his or Jorine's obituary.   I did see they misspelled Jorine's name in the one you posted.

When I saw Lena's name I thought it looked familiar, it's because her father was the 3rd person on the boat and shared ownership with them.  This is the newspaper article I'd found. I tried to translate it:

Stavanger, September 27th. A resident of Hunt here, Marie, has disappeared without a trace. Travel from Malmǿ to Bergen, probably during ?? Storm, which raged in the North Sea on the 25th and ?? Thank you so much,  strange that Thore isn't listed as a survivor so that means his only brother must have passed away before him.  I now wonder why I can't find an obituary or grave for Thore Thorsen, that brother.  Thank you so much for the obituary, he died a year before I was born on 10/4/1957, my Mom always told me that.  Odd that they died in a sailboat, they were fishermen by trade and they were transporting their haul of fish to sell.  Was it common for sailboats to be used for fishing back in  those days?
