Confirmation Date: 23 April 1876
Name: Johan Peter Gundersen
Residence Location:  Honefos No. 98 - Ringerike kommune, Buskerud fylke, Norway
Birth Date: July 30, 1861
Baptism Date: November 13, 1861
Father: Andreas Gundersen
Mother: Maren Helene Pedersdatter

I have found his birth and baptismal records and his confirmation record (above) along with census records.  Johan was my Great Grandfather and  he became a seaman and "was gone from home for six years".  I cannot find any census after 1875 listing him that I can identify.  The Confirmation record is the last record I am sure is correct.

I have gone thru the "G's" in the  Oslo sjømannskontor, SAO/A-10595/F/Fa/L0002: Register for Kristiania krets, 1866-1930, starting with p. 168-169.  There are a number of John Gundersen's but I did find two records for a John Peter Gundersen.   I had read that there were associated records with personal history (date of birth etc.) that might help identify if this is him.  These records will also have information about ships he served on, dates of sailings etc.  I have only checked Oslo so far as that seems the correct district for Honefos.

I would love to know that this is definitely him and have the additional records.  I will be so grateful if someone can help me with this.

Sincerely, Carmen

Pat no. 1040 is a Julius Peter Gundersen from Galgeberg, he died 1879, so I believe this must be the wrong person

Pat no. 3521 is called Johan Peter Gunvaldsen, so probably not the right one either

Johan Peter’s parents can be found in Hønefoss in the 1885 census, so Johan Peter must have moved out between 1876 and 1885

Being from an inland town, he could have sailed from any of several port towns along the Oslo fjord, not only Oslo. Possibly Drammen as the first choice.

Thank you both so much.  Yes, these are their records.  Is it correct that his father was a furrier?

From what I see,  should I be looking at both  Andreasen and/or Gundersen?

Based on Mr. Kolberg's  sugestion I'm now looking in  https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/42094/237 Drammen innrulleringsdistrikt, SAKO/A-781/H/Ha/L0002: Mønstringsjournal, 1870-1882, p. 237 which is the year 1876, his confirmation year.  I don't know if this is even applicable, but I supposed he must have registered and I found Drammen.

The reason this is so important to me is that I actually met him when he was in his 90's but I was only about 3 and of course don't remember him.  Once he was in the USA, he carved ship models that took him years to do.  Each of his sons got one.  Anyway he named them the Pearl, Ocean Queen and Cape Horn.  I have 2 pictures of him with his ships and am trying to tell his story for my family.  I thought if I could find some records I might be able to "tie" the ships to him.  He has a special place in our family and I am the oldest, no one else left except the younger generations.  I want him to be remembered.

I truly appreciate any help or direction given.

Carmen

Furrier is correct.

It would also be wise to look for both Gundersen and Andreassen
