Ditlev was born on June 24, 1838 to Ditlev Moller Bentsen and Gjertrud Serine Nielsdtr. He married Albertine Sofie Elvig on October 2, 1862. They resided in Hordaland, Norway.

I have been trying to find information on him since the last time I posted on this forum. Everyone was so helpful and their advice helped me inprove my tree. I finally thought, maybe someone else can find something about him. I know he died young, possibly he was a rigger and went down with a ship. Just guessing though.

Thank you!

Hi Barbara,

Ditlofa Albertine, daughter of Ditlev and Albertine Sofie, was born in Haugesund 27 July 1872 and was christened 18 Aug same year - # 133

Rogaland county, Skåre in Torvastad, Parish register (official) no. A 12.1 (1867-1877), Born and baptised 1872, Page 75

I agree that your candidate Ditlev Ditlevsen is not the one you are looking for. Father to Ditlofa,  Ditlev Møller, most probably was still alive at least 9 months prior to her birth, i.e. roughly Oct 1871.

At 1875 Census time, Albertine was living as a widow along with children Ditlef, Arnolde and Ditlofa

Consequently Ditlev Møller must have died between Oct 1871 and Jan 1876. However, I've not been able to find him as dead/buried in church records for the area. Just to mention another possibility: being a sailor, Ditlev Møller might just as well jumped ship when in port of a foreign country and never returned to Norway. As you may know, this was not at all unusual at the time.

I'm sorry that I couldn't provide any factual leads.

Kjell H.

Albertine Sofie Møller died in Haugesund 12 June 1906 and it was stated that she was the widow of her deceased husband, sailor Ditlef Møller, # 33

Rogaland county, Haugesund in Haugesund, Parish register (official) no. A 7 (1904-1916), Deceased and buried 1906, Page 179

So whoever made that annotation into the church records in 1906, most probably knew as a fact the date and circumstances around the death of Ditlef Møller.

My previous suggestion that he might have jumped ship abroad was not a good proposition.

Kjell, oh my goodness. I don't know what to say other thank "THANK YOU". I work really hard on my tree. My previous post lead to such good results. Everyone on this forum is so eager to help. I am trying to clean up the first 5 generations on both Norwegian sides. This was something I could not find no matter how hard I tried. Now, I will continue on.
