Here are two pieces of information -- the marriage of Halvar and Berit, and the birth of a child, both in the same year. Please translate the text for the birth: side 42. For the marriage, what are the names and residences of the parents? #8 Side 202

You can use Google translate. The result is understandible, although a couple of typos in the Norwegian text give strange translations.

The birth (p. 42); I read this (i.e. girl No 4) as

birth 25 Marts, bapt: 1 April

"Mons Andersen Longen (Løngen?) og Kone"

suggest "Nordhuus" for her surname. I am not able to read this here, and there seems not be a farm with this hame in this part of Norway.

There is a farm Nordtømme in Horg, but I do not see this here either.

If you refer to AMF's transcription, you do not "know" anything;

I usually check AMF transcriptions with the original source since there often are errors in their translations. In this case, I was trying to guess what Nord??me might be and Nordtømme made sense for the Støren/Horg area.

 

How would I find the book containing the birth of Berit? The source I am using for Støren/Horg starts at 1816 and she was born before that?

Horg was a sub-parish to Støren; before 1816 the parish had a common protocol for all "sokn".

Berit Arntsdatter Nordtømmes father, Arnt Johnsen Nordtømme, 1767 - 1835 is my three times/triple ? great grandfather. 

I have done som work on my family tree. 

The material is not digitalized, but if you send your address to olav.bon@online.no I can make paper copies of our common family tree.

Just a reminder: the only certain fact in this kind of research is who is the mother of a child.......

I am so happy to hear from you. I believe I found Berit Arentsdatter and her parents — Arnt Joensen and Kjersti Eihens in the scan of the original copy of the 1815 census on Horg.

 

I am hoping that you can shed some light on the man that Berit married. There is an indication that he was from Foss but I have unable to identify him among the many Halvar Nielsens who lived around that time.

 

Yes, much of the material is not digitized so I have been looking through original documents. Even when I find a digitized source, I go to the original documents since there often seem to be errors in the digitized versions.

Contact your IP-company and tell them that they have to open online.no, there should be no restrictions to a legal and normal Norwegian service like this.

 

I had the same problem with a lady in the south-states in the US. She contacted the IP-company and voila problem solved!
