Matthias and Christer:  I just saw these follow up posts that you sent to me on Tuesday.  You guys are amazing and I am so grateful.  I really liked that Godfrey angle so it’s a bit disappointing that it’s a wrong answer.  And the readout from John Nielsen’s death record is fascinating.  This is gold.

and Daniels freshman sailing record is incredible.  I will check out those links that you included.  So if he was a bit of a rogue that is such a great family history story.  I love it.

I was wondering about the sailor angle as his listed occupation in the US Census we’re as a “filter”.  And I believe he also did work with asbestos as did both of his sons, John G and Daniel R.  H resided in Jersey City New Jersey but in the 1893 birth certificate for his son John Godfrey, he and his wife were in New Bedford Massachusetts which is a seaport and back then a center for the US fishing industry.  Daniels occupation was listed there as “seaman”.  I wondered how they were in Massachusetts in 1893 but wound up in the New York/ New Jersey area by the end of 1893 (per his Naturalization paperwork).

Fascinating stuff and I appreciate both of you following up.  So grateful.  I owe you all big time.

John
