I am looking for help finding a baptism or birth entry for Benjamin Jones. His naturalization records say he is born 02 Mar 1847 in Bergen, Norway. His marriage records say his father is Peter Jones and mother as Martha (unknown maiden name). He emigrated to Boston NY in 1864. Thank you for any help or advice you can offer.

Do you have any records for him in America that you could link to or that we could look at?

I believe this birth date on the death return is based on the age informant gave (yr, mo, day) at death. The original death record I posted says birth was March 02 1850. If Benjamin was a minor when arriving in America on his naturalization record, I could see him fibbing about birth year, but he gives birth as Mar 02 1847, age 31 in 1878 on his citizen records.

I noticed on this obit for Benjamin Jones. A delegation of Knights of the Pythias attended. I will write that foundation for help on Benjamin. And a Rev for the St Mary's Free Church for Sailors officiated. And he lives in the Mariner district of Boston in 1878. So many questions the more I uncover. I would like to find his baptism so I can eventually find his mothers maiden name. Thank you EVERYONE for your help!!!!!

If the father's name was Peter/Peder, Benjamin should be called Petersen/Pedersen.
Jones is perhaps a variation of a Norwegian place name? Jonæs, Ljonæs, Gjonæs ...
Is there such a place in the west?

Thank you everyone to your help and posts.  I appreciate everyone’s help.

According to the record found by Egil he arrived in 1864, thus also left in 1864, If this is correct he made the search for him a lot more difficult than if he had left even a year or two later. He probably missed the 1865 Norwegian Census which would have made the search for him quite a bit easier. It was never going to be easy but now it is even more difficult.

Also according to the ship sailing list from NorwayHeritage there were ten ships that left Bergen in 1864. All of them had the destination of Quebec.

http://www.norwayheritage.com/p_year.asp?ye=1864

And in another unfortunate turn of events the Canadians did not start keeping good arrival passenger lists until 1865.

From Ancestry.com

"Canada, Incoming Passenger Lists, 1865-1935"

I do not want to discourage you but just inform you that the search is not likely to be easy and may take some time and digging.
