Immigration info for my ancestor who left Norway on the Ship Oder in 1873

I found the following regarding my Great Grandfather when he left Norway but can't find any information when he arrived in the United States.

 

Name = Jens Nilsen.  Departure location = Kristiana (Oslo).  Departure Date = March 28, 1873.  Destination=Baltimore.  Ship=Oder.  Ship Line = Allan Brothers.

 

My father had heard stories that after he left Norway, he was dropped off in England or Ireland and was stranded. He eventually was an indentured servant and worked off his passage in Iowa. I can't find any information that supports this.

When Jens emigrated in 1873 he was age 18 and given residence is Land. Can this be Jens in the 1865 public census for Land?

The S/S Oder, Wilson Line, sailed from Kristiania to Hull, England on March 28, 1873.

The normal route for all passengers would be to go by train to Liverpool and board a different ship to New York.

All emigrants from #100 through #120 were also onboard the Oder on March 28, so it might be worthwhile to search for the arrival of some of the other passengers and see if Jens can be found on the same list.

 

Notably, #103 Johan Guldbrandsen Saglien and #104 Eduard Hansen were also headed for Baltimore.

Grethe and Jackie, thank you for the information. Yes, that is the Jens who is my Great-Grandfather. He lived on the Fosumengen and Hullet farms. His father was born on the Rognholt farm, which is the last name he eventually used in America. We believe he lived in Iowa for 3 years to pay off his passage and then went to Wisconsin.

Well the immigration list does show him going to Iowa and he did transfer ships in England so at least a part of the family history is correct.

Any idea what the following says? It is under the heading Anmaerkning (Notes) at the Baltimore Passenger list for Immigrants in 1873 (https://media.digitalarkivet.no/view/43612/204) for my Great Grandfather Jens Nilsen and 2 other passengers he appears to be traveling with:

The first and last are documents carried by the passengers.

Fasting is a surname. Tilh(ørende) - belonging to.

 

I am not sure how Mr Fasting is involved, but his name is listed along passengers from the first page of this emigration protocol,

so I my guess is that he is a clerk, or officer, of some kind.

Præstattest (literary: priest attestation) is the birth, baptism and confirmation certificate from the church records. 
 

Rodeseddel is a similar certificate from a town clerk.
