Obituary

Manda H. Veglahn, 96, of La Crescent, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 9, 1911, in Spring Grove to Ole and Inga (Oium) Arneson. Veglahn taught elementary school in the La Crescent/Hokah area. She then worked for Gateway Transportation and also as a professional cook for many years.

She is survived by two sons, Robert (Sonja) Veglahn and James Veglahn, both of La Crescent; five grandchildren, Wendee (Tony) Fiorillo of Boston, Bobbee Jo (Tim) Byard of Boston, David (Tricia) Veglahn of Rochester, Joe Veglahn of Onalaska, Wis., and Elizabeth Veglahn of La Crescent; two great-grandchildren, Lillian Fiorillo and Marcus Fiorillo; a stepgreatgrandchild, Zack Byard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold; a grandson, William A. Veglahn; two sisters, Hilda Veglahn and Irene Arneson; and one brother Arnie Arneson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 414 Main St., La Crescent. Rev. Paul A. Ibisch will officiate. Burial will be in the Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the SchumachernKish Funeral Home, 412 S. Third St., La Crescent, on Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Verna L. Arneson, 86, of La Crescent, died on Saturday July 18, 2009, at the Gundersen-Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wis.

She was born Sept. 20, 1922, in Black Hammer Township, Houston County, to Fred and Tena (Halvorson) Engelhart. Verna attended Spring Grove High School, where she was a cheerleader and played softball. She later earned her diploma from La Crosse Logan High School. On July 28, 1942, Verna married Arne Arneson in Minneapolis, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 1995.

Verna had worked various jobs during her career, including the La Crosse Rubber Mills, the dairy store in La Crescent, and several years for Wettstein's Appliance in La Crosse. In 1964, the family moved from La Crosse to La Crescent, where they have resided since.

Verna was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in La Crosse, where she was very involved in quilt-making for missions and had recently completed her last quilt, which she made for her great-granddaughter. Verna was also an avid and accomplished bowler in her younger years, and along with her husband enjoyed aviation.

Verna is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Crary of Holmen, Wis.; a son, David (Linda) Arneson of Rochester; three grandchildren, Jason Crary of La Crosse, Amy Crary of Plymouth, Minn., and Joseph (Cyndi) Arneson of Falcon Heights, Minn.; a great-granddaughter, Audrey Dale Arneson of Falcon Heights; four brothers and sisters, Fern Trulson of Houston, Warren (Doris) Engelhart of La Crescent, Gloria Kanis of Golden Valley, Minn., and Gerald (Marian) Engelhart of La Crescent; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her husband, Arne, she was preceded in death by a son, Paul "Butter" Arneson in 2007; three brothers, Ferd, Bernard and Lowell Engelhart; and two sisters, Muriel Benson and Lois Rogers.

Marilyn Jean Crary, 67, of Holmen passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Hillview Health Care Center, La Crosse. She was born in La Crosse on May 29, 1946 to Arne and Verna (Engelhart) Arneson.

Marilyn graduated from Central High School and went on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked at Marinuka Manor in Galesville until her retirement.

Marilyn is survived by a daughter, Amy (Mark) Spanagel of Minneapolis, MN.; a son, Jason Crary of La Crosse; and a brother, Dave (Linda) Arneson of Rochester, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Paul Arneson.

Mr. Arneson, 52, of La Crescent, died Sunday (July 8, 2007) at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.
He was born March 28, 1955, in La Crosse. He was a 1973 graduate of La Crescent High School and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He had worked at UPS for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, softball and gardening.
Survivors include his mother, Verna of La Crescent; a brother, David (Linda) of Rochester; and a sister, Marilyn Crary of La Crosse. He was preceded in death by his father, Arne.
