I am searching for any information on my grandfather Olav (Olaf) Edvin (Edvin) Hansen. He lived in Moss and was born 1874. His father was Kristian Fredrik Hansen born 1845 and mother Nikoline Olsdatter born 1835 according to Church Census 1891. He had 2 brothers Fredrek and Henri and also a sister. He emigrated to South Australia around 1915. Can anyone help me with information on his family in Norway. I think he had a niece Ninni May Ellingsen. Thank you

Ninni May's mother was Helga Amalie Constance Hansen. She was born and baptized in Glemmen parish in 1872. She was born out of wedlock. Her father's name was Kristian Fredrik Hansen. Her mother's name was Nikoline Olsen:

So this should confirm that Ninni May's mother and your grandfather are siblings.

Thank you so much for that information. I so greatly appreciate it. Is there anywhere I can search to find out which ship he came out to South Australia on in 1915.

So far I believe Olaf Hansen sailed from Fredrikstad on Bia in 1914 which would make sense as he married in South Australia 2 years later. I was told that he paid for his passage by painting portraits of the Captain and Crew. This doesn't sound right as he would have had to purchase a ticket before boarding the shop. There is an Olaf Hansen on the Bia but he has a woman with him so this also doesn't seem right. Do you know where I could get his passport details. Thank you

Found BIA from Fredrikstad, but only for Freemantle in August 1914 with an English emigrant, and Melbourn in August 1915 (no passenger list) . From  a couple of Norwegian papers, it seems to have been a Swedish freight ship. Emigrants from Fredrikstad should register in Oslo, but being a freight ship, he very well might have made arrangement with the captain directly in advance of boarding, and being a painter, I think the story could be true. I am not aware of preserved passport-journals for Fredrikstad/Oslo. The women you mention, do you have her name/age? Could it be just a travelling companion he knew?

And picture of D/S Bia here: https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/ViewImage.aspx?B=6424462

Search for Olav Hansen returned  Olav Advin Hansen https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/DetailsReports/ItemDetail.aspx?Barcode=882589&isAv=N could this be him? Maybe you have requested a copy of this already (on the top right)?

So happy as I have finally found Olaf Edvin Hansen. The ship was Rena which came to Port Adelaide 1913. I have also found his Naturalisation Papers. Thank you so much everyone, without your help I would not have found him.
