Aslaug Aas /Aass in the Treason Archive

The Treason Archive (Landssvikarkivet) contains a file for every person and/or company investigated for treason. Some was acquitted and a large number of cases were dismissed. Thus, the fact that a person is part of The Treason Archive, doesn't necessarily mean that person was found guilty of treason. Also, there was a wide range of actions that could make someone found guilty of treason, so when it comes to sympathies, no conclusions should be drawn just because a certain persons name appears in the archive.

As for Aslaug Aas, her case number is listed as hnr. 657. The h stands for "henlagt", i.e. her case was dismissed.

From some of the newspapers I understand Aslaug Aas worked for a company mining mica (insulation in condenser's and electrical appliances) during the war, https://www.nb.no/search?q=%22aslaug%20aas%22&mediatype=aviser&fromDate=19400101&toDate=19441231&counties=%C3%98stfold and recruited young females for the work at Skiptvet Glimmercentral. (glimmer = mica). Aslaug Aass was released without trial.

A mil.org soldier protests her release in an article 04.07.1945 and claims the mica production was German war production. https://www.nb.no/items/9af0288667c8514bf0f7024802ff4a0d?page=1&searchText=%22aslaug%20aass%22

Apology from the police due to media’s attention was printed 12.07.1945; wrongful arrested due to rush on compiling list containing suspected nazi’s. Apology given on her husband’s demand; excuses made to him.

Why he is in the register I can’t find. Maybe because of the letter he sent demanding a public excuse?

Took a look at the company she worked for:

Preben L. Gjertsen 1904-1959 went bankrupt in 1933. Then into property, started as engineer mining after iron in 1938, and expanded to fish-industry, mining glimmer, tobacco-plants, ships etc. Referred to as opportunist.

In august 1945 he was sent to jail. In the court he admitted export of 1850 tons mica (revised to 2,600) mica from 450 mines, valued at 21,5 mill. kr. to Germany. Germany subsidized the mining, run at a loss, with 6,5 mill. in corporation with Reichcommissariatet. Dr. Josef Horvath was poited to as the real director of the company. Gjertsen received 400.000 in commission. Company placed under publ. admin., property etc. sold, company bankrupt 1947. For his treason he was sentenced to 1 yr. 3 mts. hard labour and confiscation of 300.000 kr. in January 1949. 1949 personal bankrupt.
