This may be Julie in US 1930 census, says Norwegian father, Swedish mother and has been here since 1906 as it says on the 1912 trip home passenger list:

Thanks again gang for the input! I appreciate every word! Yep, regarding the California destination, it seems to revolve around Captain Harry Olsen, the Great-Great-Grandfather that was working on the sea until his death in Oakland. He raised a family there with Marie E Andersen (that name can take many paths of variation, and crosses the Norwegian/Swedish research line) They did well for themselves, and raised many children, including my Great Grandmother Marie Gertrude Olsen, who I had the pleasure of knowing as a child. Captain Harry Olsen, and consequently the Norwegian side of my family, seems to have made a B-line for the west coast, the line of work as a captain of large sailing ships, tugs, barges, ferries, etc. surely had something to do with it.

(For some rabbit hole intrigue, I have found two completely different shipwreck stories involving a Harry Olsen. Harrowing to say the least. Harry Olsen is not a rare name then or now, but some vitals line up suspiciously. These wrecks are noted on https://www.islapedia.com/index.php?title=OLSEN,_Harry and https://davidcecelski.com/2023/04/16/the-wreck-of-the-edward-luckenbach/ )

Side note: I was raised near Oakland, CA myself, knowing a decent amount about my roots, including the 1/8th Norwegian that came from my father's side. Coincidentally, in  1998 I was offered a job in Europe, first Warsaw, then Stockholm, then Norway. There I stayed in Oslo for about 15 years, and have a son who is going to school there still. I live in Pittsburgh, PA now, but I travel to Norway quite often : )

So after all of this time, I am just peeling back the layers of my Scandinavian roots, on behalf of my Norwegian/American son : ) ...I tell him on occasion that he is "9/16ths Norwegian"

Well, I have a few leads on the Marie E Andersen... Seems she may have been working as house help of one sort or another, and her route seems may have been from southern Sweden, up through perhaps the Ostland Norway/Sweden border area around Fredrickshald. One US census states her father as Norwegian, and mother as

Swedish. I have a few other leads from the Norwegian official genealogy pages, hopefully I can decipher that pesky Scandinavia-to-US emigrant name translation. : )

Very nice to have even more meat on the bone! Thanks so much! It has been quite the learning experience! In this case, I'm happy to find that the general framework of this search has conformed to the stories that I remember hearing, and supported by the knowledge of places and locations that I grew up in myself, or had the chance to experience in my adult life.

I have a few items from the Norwegian side of the family, including the picture of Harry in a captains chair that I posted circa 1905, plus some other photos of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation people and places, some that I even had the chance to meet at a young age. (namely, my great grandparents Marie "Honey" Gertrude Olsen and Roy Franklin Taylor.) I also have Harry's wool pea coat and his long wool trench coat, with a handwritten script "Hans Olsen" on the Oakland clothier label.

I didn't think that this connection was going to be so hard to prove, especially ironic given the family/story above each of them fell into place quite easy. I believed I knew where they came from, and definitely knew where they ended up, so the hunt began! I am glad that the proof/truth can be found, which is the only thing that really matters, despite anyone's desired outcome : ) Thanks again!

I have one little throwback to send out, in case it was interesting to anyone... I could add it to another thread, but given this groups knowledge of this family, perhaps better here. The citation above is from the very beginning of this search, and it includes an intriguing potential storyline/rabbit hole/red herring (in blue) regarding Captain Harry Olsen. Again, this has many reasons to be coincidence, but too many conforming facts to ignore.

Regarding the man, Harry Olsen, I know that he was born on Merdø, an island off Arendal, and his father died at sea when he was 5. He was a deck hand from early on, and sailing across the world by the age of 15 (1875), perhaps earlier. (His travel list is long!) He did well for family, as he could stay busy as a captain in those demanding days, all over the world, especially the US, and the California Coast/Bay Area in particular. He was strict, and he was away a lot, I hear. He was certainly destined to be a man of the sea. I know that he had a great deal of experience on the sea, especially given that he lived through the transition from sailed to engined craft, and had the helm of many large vessels. Some of the facts from the stories line up completely, down to the mention of age, body type, stature, status, locations, etc. Also, many newspaper mentions of a Captain Harry Olsen regarding captains lists/itineraries/destinations/ships/days at sea/ship incidents, etc which could be pertinent ...Of course, some facts are out-of-the-gate questionable, like showing up on a different coast, or the mention of a certain residence, but strangely, there is little known about either of these wrecks in the citation.

So, if anyone has a sec, take a look at those two links in the citation. ...and have a coffee... they're pretty crazy.

But they are slowing down. I expect to run out of steam on this part of your Tree fairly soon.

Here is the oldest son of Anders and Lisbet. The farm at that time was Næple Plads which may not be a farm at all.  I remember seeing a Family Tree on Ancestry.com that had the parents of Andreas Andersen as  Anders Thorsen and Maria Naeple. Close but not totally correct.
