Kellie Skrevet April 29 Del Skrevet April 29 Hi! I am Canadian and coming to Norway this summer. My grandfather lived in Norway in the early 1900's at Nymoen Farm, Lenvik Parish, Troms County and I am trying to track down exactly where this is so we can visit. Any advice you could give me would be great and also let me know if this is not the correct forum for asking about this. Thanks so much, Kellie Lenke til kommentar Del på andre sider

Jan-Thore Solem Skrevet April 30 Del Skrevet April 30 Kellie, I do most of my genealogy in the area (Lenvik and surrounding parishes). There are a few Nymo/Nymoen, so it would/could help to pin it down if you tell us more about your grandfather (name, year of birth, parents names and dates, etc.). When did he emigrate etc? Do you already have any sources/citations to any events in Lenvik (links to National Archive pages here on this site)? Jostein Stokke og Dag T. Hi Jan-Thore, My grandfathers father was Anton Severin Nilsen born 1853 and his mother was Ane Bergithe Andreasdatter born 1853. My grandfather's name was Rikard Jarel Levisen and he was their foster child born August 2, 1898 in Sweden. This was from the 1900 census records, Troms county, Lenvik parish, Nymoen farm. I will check into the date he emigrated to Canada. His name in Canada was Richard Nelson. I don't have any sources/citations to any events in Lenvik yet. Thanks so much for any help you can give me. Men heller denne Rikard Nilsen: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/pe00000000195413 og litt mer samlet i Histreg. Jan-Thore Solem Skrevet Mai 5 Del Skrevet Mai 5 (endret) Kellie, I have Anton Severin and Ane in my database, although I have followed them only through the 1891 census (somewhat fringe family ties...). That means I do not have Rikard/Richard in my database, although Anton Hagelee (above) is spot on with the link to the 1900 census. NOTE: The Nymo farm in question is NOT the one Jostein Stokke linked to last week. Your Nymo farm (today, in 2025) has the same property number (Gårds-/Bruks-nummer) as it had in the 1900 census: 4/4 (then in Lenvik, now Senja). Note the name is just Nymo in the 2025 property registry: https://seeiendom.kartverket.no/eiendom/5530/4/4/0/0 https://www.norgeskart.no/#!?project=seeiendom&layers=1002,1014,1015,1016&zoom=15&lat=7700196.73&lon=636765.10&markerLat=7700157.069802559&markerLon=636732.9380611076&p=Seeiendom&showSelection=true&sok=Sultindvikveien The older property numbering system had it as property number: 69a2b https://rhd.uit.no/matrikkel/mtliste.aspx?knr=1931&gnr=4 Ane Bergitte came from the neighboring farm: 4/1, Målsjorden Find her in censuses 1865 and 1875 by scrolling from Anton's listings below. Anton and Ane married 1 Jan 1882 in Malangen church, Mortenhals (across the fjord, to the east). (Malangen church in Balsfjord main parish, Malangen 'sub-parish' at the time.) https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20061212620166 Edit: Kellie, I don't know how much detail you already have on the cirumstances with Rikard and his 'fosterparents'? Do you have any sources telling Rikard was actually born in Sweden (I think not)? His baptism/christening record says he was 'home baptised' 3 weeks after birth (2 Aug 1898), with the baptism confirmed (illegitimate child) in Lenvik in 1906. The 'home baptism' (3 weeks after birth) was done by Anton's father Nils Berg Kristiansen (and Anton's mother Karen Anna Sedeniusdatter as witness), so I do firmly believe Rikard was born on Målsjorden/Nymo! Without having gone too much into the details myself (yet), I suspect that 'foster-father' Anton is also Rikard's biological uncle (Anton had a sister Kirstine/Kristine Vilhelmine Nilsdatter, b. 7 Jun 1873 at Målsjorden, they were at least 8 siblings). It's far more likely that "Ungk. Arbeider [Bachelor Worker] Levi Anderson" came to Lenvik to work, than Kristine Nilsen going to Gävle, Sweden (although I have been wrong once or twice before). Anton and Ane are Rikard's godparents at the baptism: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/view/255/pd00000029757865 https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20050310020349 https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20061213620262 Census 31 Dec 1865: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/rural-residence/bf01038394000443 https://www.digitalarkivet.no/ft20090803680027 Census 31 Dec 1875: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/rural-residence/bf01052451000257 https://www.digitalarkivet.no/ft20110207680056 Census 1 Jan 1891 (Selveier = owns the farm): https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/rural-residence/bf01053197000030 https://www.digitalarkivet.no/ft10061210078928 Main list (gives you the farm number & farm name): https://www.digitalarkivet.no/ft20100208320758 Census 3 Dec 1900 (Selveier = owns the farm): https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/rural-residence/bf01037559000035 https://www.digitalarkivet.no/ft20101129310139 Edit: Census 1 Dec 1910: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/census/rural-residence/bf01036958000274 Circuit list: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/ft60084557000048 https://www.digitalarkivet.no/ft60146039000080 The family is now (1910) living (renting) in Mefjord (3/3), Berg parish (now 303/3 in Senja): https://rhd.uit.no/matrikkel/mtliste.aspx?knr=1929&gnr=3 https://norgeskart.no/#!?project=seeiendom&layers=1002,1015,1016&zoom=14&lat=7713878.49&lon=594827.66&markerLat=7714170.38104906&markerLon=595097.0688987334&p=searchOptionsPanel&sok=Mefjorden 'Out-migrated' from Lenvik parish, for 'Amerika', 1911: (right page, line numbers 15 - 18, there is a note there saying Anton (or possibly also Ane) has been to 'Amerika' before/earlier) https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/208/263 / https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20050301021359 ... and (as pointed to by Bodil above) the emigration from Trondheim, 28 Jun 1911: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/557/pe00000000195413 https://www.digitalarkivet.no/em20110304620041 Senja Municipality (Note: Established 1 Jan 2020, as a merger of Berg, Tranøy, Torsken, and Lenvik municipalities): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senja_Municipality Endret Mai 5 av Jan-Thore Solem Anton Hagelee, Dag T.
