Who is the father of Johannes Thomassen 1719 - 1804

I am researching my mother-in-law's family through the maternal line: Lillie's mother was Theodora; Theodora's parents were Nils (Niels) Peterson (1837 - 1913) and Larsine Tjernagel. Neils was born in Norway to Petter Torressen Lodden Bomlo (1808-1880). Soon after Niels was born the family moved from Lodden to Okland. After his marriage to Larsine, Niels emigrated to the USA. Petter also emigrated to the USA and both settled in Iowa. Petter was born to Torres Johannessen Luten (1771-1831); Torres Johannessen was born to Johannes Thomassen (1719 -1804).

So I would like to know who is the father of Johannes Thomassen (1719-1804): Bomlo bygdebok III page 267 says he came to Luten from Berhaug, Skanevik. In Skaneviksoga: Garder og aeter, Holmedal,  Book I page 76 there is a Tomas Johannesson (1692-1753) who had a son -- Johannes -- with the f.kr. date 1725, and the note: "Luten i Bomlo. Sja Bomlo bb. III side 267."

Does f.kr. refer to the confirmation year? If so, that would put Johannes's birthdate at 1719 as recorded in the Bomlo bygdebok.

There also is the matter of the spelling of "Tomas" Johannesson and Johannes "Thomassen".

I would appreciate your thoughts on this information.

There was no spelling police at the time. People wrote down the names in any way that would be recognized when read aloud. Someone from the clergy would probably use Thomas, as they' seen it written in the bible. It need not be consistent for the same writer, though.  'Tommesen' might have been regarded a variety of the same name.

f.kr. probably stands for 'born about' (födt kring). According to the 1801 census he was 82 years old. His age at death was recorded as 84, and he was  buried on July 8th 1804. https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20070507610502

According to Bömlo Bygdebok he was born in 1719, and had been a corporal in Lieutenant Colonel (Oberst lieutnant) Richelieu's company. The same source says he lived at Hillestad in 1753, but came from Berhaug in Skaanevik. He had no children in his first marriage to Siri Mikkelsdatter.

There may be some information about him in the military records, possibly also in the church books related to his marriages, and there may be information in the probate records from Berhaug. Possibly also in court documents.

As for Lotten/ Luten/Luthen/Lodden they are all different spellings of words meaning 'part'. Luten was formerly a part of the farm Hovlandshagen.

There is a parallel discussion on the Facebook page Slektshjørnet about the same people.

Det går ein parallell diskusjon på Facebooksida Slektshjørnet om samme personane.
