Searching for information on Anna Marie (Mary) Anderson

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the follow up information. I agree with Anton's assessment that the 2nd possible Anna Marie Mary candidate suggested by Mathias is not reliable. The birth date and family emigration information do not match our records. Mary emigrated and married Peder Larsen (Peter Larson) in 1869. I'm interested in in the first "Mary's" matrimineal ancestors, possibly Eli Elefsdatter or Dorothe Amundsdatter from the Lier area.

Do you have any links to these two candidates? When were they born etc,  And why do you think that they are connected to your family?

You posted this on page one, but I have not been able to document it. I have searched all three sources for marriages in 1784 for Lier, Buskerud but have not been able to find the source for this marriage. Can you post a link to the document or at least where you have found this marriage record?

Perhaps I have found the family that you have referenced above. They are living in the parish of Hole, Bukerud not Lier. Here is the family in the 1801 Census.

https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/person/pf01058269001367

Yes, this look very close. The dates are in order.  #14 could be Mari Johnsdatter's father and 15 would be her mother.

My source is not reliable, AI searching the archives.  I could not pull up the reference to the 1801 census that purportedly had Eli aged 36 years.  Eli Elefsdatter married John Olsen 14 October 1784, also unable to confirm.

Will search deeper for Dorothe Amundsdatter.  Born circa 1743.  Died January 15, 1818.  Buried in the Frogner Churchyard.  Record note:  Died at the Moe Farm aged 75.

So the Mari Johansdatter I found living in Lier, Buskerud was born about 1804.

I agree, not the same.  Mari from Hole would have been 56 years old when Anna Marie Andersdatter was born.

We have the birth and christening record of Anna Marie with the same parents.

Births and baptisms: 1845-09-28  Parish/Church: Frogner  Page: 30 Serial no.: 147

It appears reasonable that these are the parents of the Anna Marie that emigrated to America in 1869 on the Kroger.  Is it possible to identify the parents of Mari Johnsdatter, formerly of Modum?

I think the all of the names are from farms, Although I did not see Steenbroe in the list of farms, but I would be very surprised if it was not a farm.

Sille Erichsdatter is a fairly unique name so I think that the following records are probably connected to her.

Here she is working as a servant girl in the 1801 Census. No parents that I can find. born in 1778 which is about right.

https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/person/pf01058274001882

Probably a sibling named Ole born in 1808

Probably her as a widow in the 1865 Census.

Interesting information you have discovered and shared.  The available resources in Norway are incredible, especially in comparison to Northern Ireland and Scotland.

I need a tutorial on searching the archives, that's another topic, I guess.

I'm thinking these potential ancestors should be verified in some manner.  It seems prudent before going further up this tree? But I don't know what that entails.  I posted this topic on the advice of the Norway DNA Project administrator at FTDNA, where I began the original query.  I've yet to learn how to take my mtDNA and YDNA results and apply to research such as this.  Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Yes, I would agree that it is probably time to try to use what I call the Norwegian Farm Books. In Norway they are called Bygdebok or Bygdebøker (plural)

A bygdebok (plural: bygdebøker) is a Norwegian local history book, widely considered the best source for Norwegian genealogical research. These books provide in-depth information about specific farms, families, and communities, often detailing who lived where, when they lived there, and their family connections.

https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/Norway_Farm_Books

You are going to need to start a new Topic to bring in some new posters who are familiar with the Bygdebøker for Modum, Buskerud. We are dead ended  on these people.

It is likely that Sille Erichsdatter is the girl born in 1778 with parents Erich Olsen and Maren Hansdatter. I can not find any likely candidates for these two. There are too many potentials with similar names.

Sille Erichsdatter married a John Olsen in 1884. Again John Olsen is too common a name for me to find any good candidates.

You need some new posters to find farm names connected to Sille, parents Erich Olsen and his wife Maren Hansdatter and her husband John Olsen. Then search the Bydgebok for these farms to find the correct people and use the books to document their histories.

Here is a list of the books from Modum.  The books 4, 5, and 6 are what need to be accessed. If you have a Norwegian IP address you can use them online, Without a Norwegian IP address you need to be able to use a library. Probably one in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa or North Dakota.

I took a longer look at the record for Sile Erichsdatter in the 1801 Census. There is a John Olsen born about 1778 also living at the farm Øren in the 1801 Census.

Might be worth a longer look.
