My g-g-g-g-grandfather shows up in Beitstaden in 1865 census. His place of birth is "Nordmore". Where is Nordmore? I am unable to locate it.

Nordmøre is the nothernmost part of Møre og Romsdal dylke, also called Romsdal county.

If I wish to look up Nordmore in the Census, what municipality do I look at? Nordmore does not appear as a municipality in the list.

Nordmöre is an area, not a county or a municipality, in the same way that New England is not a state. I am not absolutely sure, but teh municipalites from 1548 and upwards in Møre og Romsdal should be Nordmöre.

The various skipreider/kommuner (municipalities etc.) that Nordmøre consists of are/were (from various periods): Smøla, Tustna, Aure, Kristiansund (Lille Fosen), Frei, Tingvoll, Halsa, Surnadal, Rindal, Averøy, Eide, Gjemnes, Sunndal, Gagnat, Mek, Vik, Brøske. The parishes were in 1800: Kvernes, Aure, Edøy, Tingvoll, Sunndal, Stangvik and Surnadal (Øye). Later in the 1800's the following parishes were created: Kristiansund (from Kvernes, Tingvoll and Stangvik 1827), Halsa (from Stangvik 1876), Øre (from Tingvoll and Kvernes 1893), Øksendal (from Sunndal 1853), Rindal (from Surnadal 1857).

A further comment. The present-day kommuner/municipalities that Nordmøre contains are: Smøla, Tustna, Aure, Kristiansund, Frei, Tingvoll, Halsa, Surnadal, Rindal, Averøy, Eide, Gjemnes and Sunndal.The municipalities at time of source are nos. 1503 and 1549 through to 1573.
