should pauline THAULAND be CAROLINE? --wife of OLE the baker. Also-please can you determine if BERNHARD THAULAND/1856 is actually BERNHARDT/1849? --it seems that OLE/1834(33?) was not married in 1849! also-please help me determine the meaning of the surname THAULAND. thank you for any help!

You should probably specify which 1875-census (which parish). Thauland is most likely a farmname. There is a farm named Taugland in Ullensaker. The name is not completely understood. The last part is of course "land".

In the tax roll of 1838 an older name Togalund is mentioned for Taugland. In O.Rygh: Norske Gaardsnavn (Norwegian farmnames) you find "Taugland søndre og nordre. Udt. tau1e£'n. Toghaland RB. 295. i Toghalund RB. 305. Tawlen 1520. Togelund NRJ. I 12. Tofflenn 1557. Thoullen 1594.1/1, 1/1. Togland OC. 25.Thofflen 1617. Tougland 1666. Touland, Tougland (2 Gaarde) 1723.". The form Taugland appear to be a "modern" form? But for the process of finding a link of Ole Thauland to the farm this has only minor intrest. Arne E.
