Great grandfather Peder Johnsen from Tiller,is now-where to be found in the 1865 census.Up to 1865 they finished building the NSB.railroad from Storen to Trondheim.Is it possible that the RR.workers slipped through the census of-65?Living in camps?? S.H.Sponaas.

Know nothing about railroadworkers and slipping through census, but I've found something in the census of -75: Peder Johnson from Tiller, born 1834, married to Anne Johnson from Statsbygda, bort 1840. In 1875 - three children, Anna, Peder and Håkon. They all lived in Nedre Ihlens 21, Trondheim. This Peder Johnson worked in a mill. Possibly your g.grandfather?

The railway line between Trondheim and Støren was completed in 1864. Thus, most of workers would have left the area by 1865. The work on the extention from Støren to Røros was started in 1872. (Article by Chr.Lodgaard in "Singsås bygdebok", first ed., page 440). Since I know you're looking for one Peder Johnsen, there's one to be found in the 1865 census for Støren. This one's a mechanic or "machine maker" ,(33) and single. Place of birth is, unfortunately not Tiller, but Støren, but that might well be an inaccurancy in the census. One must always assume that some of the information in the censuses is second-hand, given by other residents in the house/house-hold if the person in question was absent and his/her personal data wasn't well known. Then, I guess it was up to the official representative to fill in with what seemed reasonable.
