I am wondering if there is any lists available for geneologists that shows all the persons that came into America. Here in Norway we have the emigration-lists and there they stated their destination in America. But what if they changed their minds on the way over? Maybe they gave another destination to the customs in America? I am also wondering about what office/institution to contact for further information regarding birth/marriages etc. in a certain county, and are they helpful at all? Thanks from Ingjerd

Jeg har også jobbet med utvandrede slektninger. Det finnes en del du kan finne ut på nettet, forsøk f eks www.ancestry.com og www.ironworld.com. Bare begrensede opplysninger er tilgjengelig gratis, men du kan få hjelp. Via ironworld finner du adressen til Iron World Research Center, og de kan sjekke folketellinger og forskjellige opplysninger om dødsfall, fødsler mm på bestilling. De sjekket noen opplysninger for meg, og jeg tror det kom på ca 80 norske kr. (Dessverre kostet det ca 90 kr å få sendt disse pengene til USA, men....) Jeg har f eks fått tilsendt kopi av papirene som ble fylt ut da en slektning ble amerikansk statsborger (Naturalization Records)- ganske interessant. Det var i alle fall god hjelp å få og god service.Det er sikkert mye mer du kan søke i, og hvis du først begynner å lete et sted, finner du gjerne tips og linker til andre nettsteder. Jeg fant mye ved simpelthen å søke på "genealogy" og lignende. Lykke til!

You might want to be aware of the Norwegian-American Bygdelagenes Fellesraad. The Bygdelagenes Fellesraad is made up of the organizations of emigrant descendants from particular areas of Norway who are now living in North America. Each lag seeks to preserve and strengthen bonds with its home district or community-of-origin in Norway, much of it through genealogical research.The NABF has a web page with all the lag listed at: http://www.hfaa.org/bygdelag/ The site also includes some helpful links to other sites related to Norwegian-American genealogy.
