I seek information about Ole, my ggg grandfather. Church records for his wife, Berthe Marie Hansdtr indicate he came from Jahrsholte. As late as 1900, one of his sons, Kristian Olsen lived on this farm. Berthe lived there in 1865, a widow. How do I find out about Ole's parents, siblings, death, etc.

Dear Lasse: Thanks so very much for your information about Ole's family. I know that he died sometime between 1835 and 1865. Berthe was a widow in the '65 Census. I have written a letter to the submitter of the familysearch information. Perhaps he will be able to shed some light on Ole's forefathers. I'm still quite confused about the geography of Norway. So many names, and such changes over the years. Would a farm called Jahr in Akerhus of the 1400's be the Jahrsholtet of 1900, or should I concentrate on farms called Holt?

I was born in Aurskog, which is a parich/(herred) in the county/(fylke) Akershus and may shed some light on the name Jahrholtet, but not on members of the family you are searcing for. The place was in 1950 named Holtet - under the farm Jar. (The "h" has been dropped from the name Jahr.) You may try to look it up on the adress www.dokpro.uio.no/cgi-bin/stad/matr50 -which in Norwegian (sorry) -lists up the owners of nearly each piece of land in Norway back in 1950.
