In the 1865 census, my grandfather's birthplace is listed as AGERSOGN. In the 1875 census, his birthplace is AKER. Is Agersogn and Aker the same place? Is it a parish, subparish or farm? In what county/province would this place be found?

Agersogn and Aker is the same place. It's actually Ager Sogn, and "sogn" means parish. Aker parish lies in Akershus County, right next to Oslo, in the Eastern part of Norway.

I agree with Kenneth, but to be quite precise Aker parish was i Akerhus county. Today Aker is included in Oslo. I think the city border of Oslo was expanded around 1948/1949.

Thanks! That answers my question why I can't find Aker listed as a parish in Akershus in "Present municipalies". Now, I will look in Oslo.
