Thanks to all who gave suggestions for my research. I will be looking at the map web site that Else suggested soon. I have searched the 1880 census (on this site) for Norwiegens in the US and found Thore and family. The census shows that the name had not been changed to TOPPER at this time but it is spelled ROGNES. Is this the american spelling for RAGNAAS? I have found a city north of Oslo called ROGNE. Is it possible that this could be the location where this name came from? Thanks....

The norwegian name Rognes is coming from the farm he was born on, and where his parents lived. In your "take 1" I belive I wrote when and where he was born. Ragnaas is wrong.

Hello Berit, Thank you for the information. Also in "take 1" you found some information about Thore's parents, Ole and Astri. Those names also appear on Thore death certificate. Now I have several links to look for. I will search for the farm name with ROGNES and see what I can find. Thanks again for your help. Roger
