I have several queastions about lfe in Norway now that I am getting close to finishing my Family's history there. Not that it will ever be really finshed. I'll ask them in separte messages as much as I can. First. Were the parish churches in , For example, Fjelberg an Eid, or others, staffed full time with clergy who could take care of marriages, baptisms, confirmations, and the like w3hen the people needed. Or did the people perhaps have to wait for a clergyman to come to a parish. I see cases where people travelle a long way to be confirmed. Others wheemarriages were perilously close to the birth o their children, if not after. Second. Probably half of the men in my family were soldiers in the Norwegian army, it seem. Yet they seem to be living at home. How did ths work?

Other questions are: Were there, in the late 1600's and 1700's, things like fairs and markets which people attended as part of their social life. I guess the people who lved on farms went to church, to weddings, baptisms, Confirmations, funerals. Went to markets, fairs, parties dances and the like to have an active social life. Is this a correct assumption, generaly? Im trying to imagine a tpical farm family's life away from the work of the farm, if the could get away. Im also trying toimagine the clothing worn by farm families in the 1600 and 1700's. Would appreciate any help anyone can give in trying to understand a little better the place from which many of my family came Thanks R sabo
