De etterlater seg 4 barn: Alfred (1900-1974),Karl Georg (1902-1975), Harriet (1903-1983)(gift med George A. Travis), Fred/Fridtjof (1904-1953). Vet ikke nøyaktig hvor de holdt til. Sannsynligvis Chicago hele tiden. Jeg kjenner alle etterkommerne her. Jon, if you can redo this in English i might be much more likely to find matchs! I see a Karoline, d 1925 in the IL index, what do you think? Also, an Anton d 1916, and a female Andria, d 1937, and a Lena, d 1933. and a Martha Lauber, d 1928; is the Lauberg spelling certain? Roger.

Roger. Thanks a millon for all your help so far. You are right. An English translation would be a good idea. If you really have som obits – it would be fantastic ! Would love to see them. My e-mail adress is at the bottom. Here is the translation:A whole family ends up in America. Could anyone please help me in finding out what happened to this family ?When Andreas Halvorsen dies at Eiker, Norway in 1905 it is said that he leaves behind widdow Karoline Halvorsen at Eiker and the children: 1.Hakon Andreasen 28 years America 2.Sofie Edword Rud, America 3.Marta Lauberg, America 4.Anton Halvorsen, 23 years, America 5.Andrea Halvorsen, America 6.Otilie Halvorsen 13 years Eiker 7.Henry Halvorsen 9 years Eiker-------------1.Håkon Martinius Halvorsen born in Norway 14 Mar 1876 – marries in Nes in Hallingdal, Norway. Living in Nedre Eiker, Norway in 1900. Lenke Goes to Chicago 1902. Departure from Norway 29. May 1902 Lenke He brings his wife Ingeborg born 1881, and his youngest son Karl Georg Halvorsen born in Norway 9 Feb 1902. I am not able to find these people at Ellis Island. Håkon lives in 1906 at # 815 or #115 W. Division Street, Chicago. His other son (Alfred Halvorsen born:15 Sep 1900) comes to Chicago in 1903 along with Håkons sister, Andrea Halvorsen. Håkon dies in Chicago in 1940. His wife dies at the same place 1949. They had 4 children: Alfred (1900-1974), Karl Georg (1902-1975), Harriet (1903-1983)(married to George A. Travis), Fred/Fridtjof (1904-1953). I do not know excactly where they lived. Probably in Chicago the whole time. I do know all the decendants of Håkon. But they know nothing about Håkons siblings.2.Sofie Maria Halvorsen - born in Norway 12 Apr 1878 – travels unmarried to Chicago in 1896. Departure from Norway 29 Oct 1896. Lenke arrival at Ellis Island 11 Nov 1896 – on her way to Chicago - Lenke She is said to be married to Edvord / Edvin Rud in 1905. Probably living at # 977 No. Rockwell in Chicago in the year 1900. She is probably back ”home” in Norway in 1903 to get her sister Andrea. She is called Sofie Reed when she leaves Norway She is said to be married and is going to Chicago. Know nothing about her life or descendants after 1905. Roger Thauland, in Lindenhurst, says in 2004: “Sophie married Edward A. Reed, 1900, according to familysearch; but i've not yet found the Reed's in the census; might have moved from IL, i suspose. ..but i did not check Read.”3.Anton Halvorsen born 2 Oct 1881 in Norway. He is in Norway in 1900. Lenke . Goes to Chicago as a 22 year-old unmarried machine worker in 1904. Departure from Norway 15 April 1904. Lenke . Anton Halvorsen arrives at Ellis Island 20 April 1904 on the Oceanic from Liverpool. He is going to his brother H.M. Halvorsen at # 720 W. Division street Chicago, Illinois. - (i.e. his oldest brother Håkon Marinius) Look here: Lenke. Know nothing about his life or descendants after 1905. Roger Thauland, in Lindenhurst, says in 2004: “find an Anton , dead 1916 in the IL index.” This might be the right person.4. Martha Halvorsen - born in Norway 20 Feb 1884. She travels to Chicago, unmarried in 1900 – departure 5 Oct 1900 - Lenke On the same ship is 36 year-old Anna Reed who might be a relative of Edvord/Edvin Rud/Reed who is married to Marthas sister Sofie. Lenke Martha joins her sister Sofie who is married to Edvig? or Edvord ? Rud or Reed. In 1900 it is said that her sister and brother-in-law are living in Chicago at #977 No. Rockewell. When Martha is at Ellis Island she is together with the young man Jens Kopland who is a friend of Edvig ? Rud /Reed Lenke. Martha is probably married to someone named Lauberg ? before 1905. Know nothing about her life or descendants after 1905. Roger Thauland, in Lindenhurst, says in 2004: “Martha got married (about 1902) to Frederick H. Lauber, born Iowa, about 1872 to Ger's; 3 kids, Dorothy dies in 1916; the other 2 married; living family should be possible” Roger Thauland, in Lindenhurst, also says in 2004: “find a Martha Lauber d. 1928 in the IL index.” This might be the right person.5. Andrea Halvorsen. Born in Norway 8 Jul 1886. Leaves Norway 2. Oct 1903. Lenke She is travelling together with her 3 year-old nephew Alfred (son of her brother Håkon). It is very likely that Andreas’ older sister Sofie is travelling with them. The older sister is on the ship’s list under the name of Sofie Reed. They are all going to Chicago. I am not able to find them as having arrived at Ellis Island. Know nothing about her life or descendants after 1905.6. Othile Halvorsen born 03 Sep 1891 in Norway - Departure from Norway 15 June 1906. Lenke She goes to America together with her mother and brother Henry in 1906. They are going to Chicago, to join Håkon the oldest brother. In their company we also find 17 year-old Kari Knutsdatter Lie who is the sister of Ingeborg, Håkons wife. Know nothing about Othilie’s life or descendants after 1905.7. Henry Fridtjof Halvorsen born in Norway 20 Aug 1895 – Leaving Norway 15 June 1906 Lenke . He comes to America with his mother and sister Othile in 1906. They are going to Chicago, to join the oldest brother Håkon. In their company we also find 17 year-old Kari Knutsdatter Lie who is the sister of Ingeborg, Håkon’s wife. I do not know anything for certain about his life or descendants after 1905. But he is probably the Henry Halvorsen who dies in Cook County Illinois (Chicago) in January 1968.8. Their mother, Karoline Sofie (born in Norway 16 Aug 1856) is a widow. She comes to America in 1906. Departure from Norway 15 June 1906 Lenke She brings her two youngest children Othilie and Henry. They arrive at Ellis Island 26 June 1906. She is then renamed Lina Halvorsen Lenke . She is going to Chicago to join her son Håkon who lives at #815 or #115 W. Division Street, Chicago. In their company on the ship you also find 17 year-old Kari Knutsdatter Lie who is a sister of Ingeborg Knutsdatter Lie, Håkon’s wife. Roger Thauland, in Lindenhurst, says in 2004: “find a Karoline, dead 1925 in the IL index.” This might be the right person. Roger Thauland, in Lindenhurst, says in 2004: “find a Lena Halvorsen dead 1933 in the IL index.” This might be some relative.Within 10 years the old mother and her seven children had left Norway. I think they all used Halvorsen as their surname in America – At least Håkon Martinius did. I do know a lot about the oldest son Håkon. But what happened to the other six ? Did Sofie Reed, Martha Lauberg, Anton Halvorsen, Andrea Halvorsen, Othilie Halvorsen and Henry Halvorsen have any family ? Grateful for any help !My e-mail adress: jon.torp AT c2i.net

The English version cleared up some details for me; i have a number of lookups to do using lds film, i'll email photocopies for any matches; i see an Andria, d 1937 to look up; i'll try to find the marr cert for Sophie to learn Edwards age, reed/read is rather common. But in Martha's line: you must contact the Zeilstra family of Cary, IL; (my high school town). If someone can do a link to the 1910/1920 census, find Frederick H Lauber, age 38/46. 3 kids: Dorothy, born 1906, dies 1916, it seems(lookup pending). Lillian, born 1907,abt, marries Harry J Zeilstra. I have his obit. Fred, junior is born 1909. I also have obits for both Freds. Fred #2 has daughter Diana Feely and son Dennis. Dennis has Mark and Gregory, it seems. I did not try to find them, but they should be on the web. Perhaps the Zeilstra branch knows much more, we never know! Roger.

Jon, hope you are ok; did my obit emails arrive ok? A few swings--some hits, some missed! .... Hakon--buried at Elmwood cemetery--please write to the office, asking for any info--like who else is in the same 'lot' (if anyone) (i will email photocopies later).......Anton..living in 1925, was the informant for his mother, she is buried at Mt. Olive..and so another cemetery to write, i suggest. In the 1904 city book he lives at 614 n Claremont av, a machinist; he is living at the same address as his widowed sister....Sofie M married Edward A. Reed(i ordered the film of the cert today), he dies sept 10, 1903, was a painter, born Iowa, was 28 years, 8 months, and lived in IL 10 years and is buried at Waldheim cemetery(another letter!). They lived at 736 w Division st. ......Martha, i still need to do the 1928 lookup. Dor(o?)thy Lauber was born May 15, 1905--dead of heart problem, Oct 5, 1916. Buried Elmwood, so another letter. ....Andrea was not the 1937; she married Selmer Anderson (cert # 590644) on 26 march 1912; there is a Selmer in the IL index d 1939-i will do the lookup. Selmer was 25 and so was she--at marriage. She is in the 1920 census(age 32), but without Selmer (i have no idea--traveling perhaps?) and with a daughter, Signe was 7, born to Nor's so Selmer is Norsk. ...........Henry lives with his sister--Andrea (spelled Anna, however). Mabel is his wife, age 20, born IN to WI/IN. They have a not quite year old daughter named Lorraine,. living at 1818 n Richmond. .........Ottilie, age 18 marries Bernhard Halvorson, age 24 (she has monogrammed Halv.. stuff after all..so had to find another Halv..,(sorry, my yoke)); 4 nov 1909, cert #520300. ......Karoline lived at 4823 Palmer. Roger.
