Something like this:'Har opset' = beeing a tentant farmer'af sit forrige bruk' = of his last 'farm''paa norsunde' = on norsunde (a location)'af sin søn som er husbonde' = of his son who is the farmerSo, the first sentence is telling you that the person is beeing a tentant farmer on his last farm. And then that his son is the farmer, and that the father is 'renting/leasing' a part of the farm.Maybe someone else can give a more specific translation...Best regards, Cathrine

I wonder a little here. A 'tenant' or 'tenant farmer' usually means one that posesses land or property either by hiring or other arrangement, although without owning it. Right?'Oppsett' is one of the words used for the arrangement that the former holder (by ownership or hiring) of a farm is taken care of and supported by the new holder. This included housing, a speified amount of food, fuel, fodder and shelter for a specified number of cow(s) and sheep, and care in sickness. Other words for the same arrangement re 'kår', 'vilkår', 'føderåd', 'folge', etc. This was the normal form of retirement, and it was part of the contract of transfer of holdership. The retired farmer had this right regardless of whether he chosed to live on the farm or not.
