Gjest Ingrid Seim

Please forgive me for posting in English, but I can't read norwegian. I am trying to trace ancestors from Jostedal from 1883 and earlier. I searched in Døypte Sogn og Fjordane 1669-1895 by picking'Prestegjeld id,' 'børjar på (vis),' and '14.'The answers that came back listed1424 (Årdal), 1425 (Hasflo), 1428 (Askvoll) and 1429 (Fjaler).Apparently there are no births in the Sogn og Fjordane database for1426 (Luster) and 1427 (Jostedalen).Where would I go to find them?I am searching for the birth record of Ingrid Jonsdatter Espe, born 16 Jan 1883 to Jon Iversen Espe and Marte Nilsdatter Hesjevold and for birth and marriage records for their ancestors. I would be grateful if someone would help me know where to search.

You can find her konfirmation under 'Digitsed parish registers'(Skanna kyrkjebøker) on the top of this page. Find Sogn og Fjordane and look for Jostedal 1887 - 1914. Konfirmerte 1898.On top of that page it says Mellomstor (40%) and you can change it to Full (100%). It is easier to read.Jostedal, Konfirmasjon page 95 no. 16, 31. July 1898 Ingerid Johnsdatter Espe, born 16. january 1883 at Leteigen-Lie, bapt. 18. march 1883, living at Espe. Parents: Inderst (now husmann) John Iversen Gjerdet (now Espe) and wife Marte Nilsdt.

Thank you very much, Berit! I am very excited to find this. She is my great-grandmother, who emigrated in 1905.This wonderful Digitalarkivet has shown me records for my ancestors in Vik that go back to the 1740s. Because of that, I have been able to trace some of them to the 1500s in Denmark. Is it possible that there are no electronic databases of church records from Jostedal? Were the parish records damaged or lost?

Gjest Rune Thorstensen

The only John Iversen I can find in Jostedal in the 1865 cencus is this one.[url="http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=f61427&gardpostnr=102&personpostnr=749&merk=749#ovre>Lenke And this might be the emigration for Ingrid.

Gjest Rune Thorstensen

And this seems to be the death of Marthes mother, Anne Olsdtr. Hesjevold d.01.08.1863, burried 06.08.1863.Lenke I would like to remind you that all of my postings have to be checked with churchbooks to be verified.Rune Thorstensen

Dear Ingrid!I am happy to discover your interest in the Espe family, and I can tell you I know this family in great detail: Ingrid Espe Seim (1883-1972) and her husband John E. Seim (1866-1943) of Holmes township, Rolette Co., ND as well as their four children Arthur, Elvin, Morris and Bernice with spouses are described in volume V of the Luster County History Book series, Jostedal parish, published by Luster County in 1994. The book also includes Ingrid's ancestry in Jostedal as far back as it can be traced in reliable sources. You can find this book in several libraries throughout the US, including Library of Congress of Washington, DC, the Family History Library of Salt Lake City, UT, Luther College of Decorah, IA, Chester Fritz Library of Grand Forks, ND and the Vesterheim Genealogical Center of Madison, WI. I am the author.Very sincerely yours,Lars E. Oyane

Thank you very much for your kind efforts, Rune. They helped me a great deal.Lars, how happy you have made some people you have never met!You should see me jumping up and down. (I've scared my cats. They're looking at me like i've lost my mind.)I am the granddaughter of Arthur Seim. Sadly, he passed away November of 2003 at the age of 96, very near where I now live. I spent every summer of my childhood working on his farm outside of Dunseith, ND. I knew well and clearly remember Ingrid, her children and her sister Bertha. Though Great-grandpa John died many years before I was born, Great-grandma Ingrid told me stores from both sides of the family. They are what helped me recognize the Seim farm when I saw it at http://www.vikjavev.com/gardar/, as well as my ancestors once I found them through this wonderful digital archive. All of Arthur's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren are still living but I would be happy to gather up and provide suitably discrete information, if that would be of any genealogical interest to you.I have to go and call my dad and my aunts now. They will be so excited! With deep gratitude to Berit, Rune and Lars, Ingrid Seim
