Mind your language, ladies! (joke, but..) No 5) refers in a general way to some dictionary. No 6) gives some quite familiar info on surgical needs in the military forces. In 1869 in Norway at the top of the Medical Service of the Army ('Armeens Lægevæsen') was a 'Generalchirurg', then second highest ranking were 8 'Brigadelæger', below them 36 'Corpslæger', and lowest in the hierarchy were 14 'Compagniechirurger'. We must use the literal translation in order to be precise about the rank and tasks of the person in question. Ideally I would write e.g. 'Brigade Doctor'. Such a man certainly might (or had to?) have surgical experience, but he probably would not need it any more in his work, in peaceful times at least.
