[#39482] Information from Vardal Bygdebok?

Recommended Posts

Gjest Marisa Benson

I am looking for information about the farms my ancestors came from in Vardal, Oppland. I cannot find copies of the Vardal Bygdebok, however, in libraries here. I would be looking for entries for Lille Gryte and Nedre Gryte, specifically Ole Jensen born in L. Gryte in 1762, dying at N. Gryte in 1838. Ole was my g-g-g-g-grandfather. His grandson, Martin Johannesen, was born at Føllingstad-eie in Vardal in 1831 and emigrated to Wisconsin in the late 1860s.Any help on farm histories would be appreciated as well as the present day location of these farms.

Hope the following may be of interest.According to a set of pedigrees published by Per Braastad, Ole Jensen at Nedre Gryte came from Nedre Mjølstad, son of Jens Syversen Mjølstad 1730-86 and Ingeborg Pedersdatter Vestre Skjervum 1736-. Jens was son of Syver Tordsen Mjølstad 1703-53 from Stav (and Sund) in Nes, Hedmark. Syvers wife was Kari Jensdatter -1774.There is more about Syver here Lenke --- but in Norwegian. His parents were Tor Syversen and Anne Borgersdatter.Wrt material about Vardal, visit www.slektshistorielaget.no where you will find transcriptions of most church/parish records and much more, incl maps and links to maps. The Gryte farms are located approximately 10 km east of the city center of Gjøvik, approx 1 km south of Vardal (Haug) church.
