I agree with Ivar in (25), as my no (9) in general terms also touched upon. Here I would like to suggest the following version, formulated before reading (24-26):'Then they held wedding and celebrated and fired thunderous musket shots for several full days.' Especially the word 'thunderous' might be substituted, but then by a word signifying some slighter noise. In total my last version agrees with most of what was suggested by several good contributors. My improvement (perhaps) 'full days' signifies they made good of even the last day ('til ende').

I can see that Verlyn wants to keep the trolls inside the story - maybe he could say something like ' ... and then they fired off blanks, making noise enough to wake the trolls'.We have the expressions 'noise enough to wake the dead' or 'noise enough to wake the Seven Sleepers' so why not wake the trolls?Otherwise 'several days on end' means 'full' days.

Maybe this about waking the trolls is good in more than one way, and it being blank shots from the old muskets or 'munnladningsgevær' could be added for more precise accordance with a possibly implied meaning in the long original. So, 'fired blank musket shots' etc.'On end' just may, and should not have to, mean 'full'. Because something might occur around noon several days on end, too, and not all until the end of the last day.We could compare with double and even triple use of a synonymous expression for added strength or literary style, like 'i tri heile samfulle dagar til ende' (arch. or rural Norw.), which could be translated 'for three whole, complete, full days'.
