Mvh Lill

Lill,Eric Nilsen in Drøbak is fyrbøter ( stoker )on Dampskip ' Olaf '.In 1880 emigration his yrke is arbeider not sjøman. There is no Census for 1875 Buskerud so your Erik Nilsen could still be in Eker or? I did find a Ingeborg Johnsdr. f.1854 Eker living in Kongsberg 1865.Her father was John Larsen Frydenburg from Eker.Is this name familiar? Ron

Erik Nilsen in Drøbak I believe in. He is born in Vestfossen, which is correct and has the correct age. He has left home. The name Ingeborg does not 'ring a bell':Utflyttet til Bragernæs 15/4 1873 (iflg. kirkebok for Eiker) Enkem. Nils Nilsen med børn Erik 14 år Nikoline, 8 år Gunder 5 årIn the census for Skoger 1875 Strømsgodset liste nr. 46 Branteløkken (nr. 18b):Nils Nilsen, husfader, gift, husleier, saugmester ved Dampsag, født 1835, Eker Marthe Thorstensd., kone, gift, født 1852 Sigdal Nikoline Nilsen, datter, født 1865 Gunder Nilsen, søn, født 1868His sister Laura Bolette had died 1869. His mother died 1872, Erik was konfirmert 1873, his father had remarried 1774, Erik has left '75.In Skoger's kirkebok for utflyttede is listed: ungkarl Erik Nilsen Rødskoven, født 5/3 1859 flytter til Amerika i september 1880.Then we perhaps found him on the boat Angelo to Wisconsin, see above.Perhaps he did not stay and went back on a boat Rauma and was part of this British census in 1881.I have the following requests: 1. Could someone chase the arrival of Angelo or connected lines to the US? 2. Trace the boat Rauma's movements? 3. Look into the British successive censusesI would really appreciate it!Lill

Lill, the 'Angelo' was a ship who took emigrants to England to go on other ships to Canada and the US.'Angelo' went Sept 1880 to Hull,England. There were 15 ships leaving Liverpool for Canada and the US that ' Angelo ' passengers could connect to. If Erik is the one in Drøbak who put the entry in Skoger kirkebok unless he was still was in the Eker area? Ingeborg Johnsdr.with Erik in Sept.1880 fits the one in Kongsberg who was born in Eker. Its also possible Erik was living in Kongsberg? Passage was paid to the US so I dont think Erik stayed in England. Ron

M.A.Lea was agent for Cunard in Kristiania. SS Parthia left Liverpool 09-29-1880 for Boston There were no other Cunard ships leaving around this time so Erik would have gone on this ship if he went to the US. Ron

I was hoping to find Erik or Ingeborg on the passenger list for Parthia in Boston. Yet records for Boston dont have the Parthia 9 Oct 1880.I have a friend trying to find out why the records are not there. I am almost 100% certain Erik and Ingeborg travelled together. They bought passage at the same time from Lea in Kristiania,so if I cant find Erik,I would look for Ingeborg.I checked again and Parthia was the only Cunard ship that left Liverpool end of Sept 1880.If they were going on another ship, they would have used a different agent. And if Erik was just going to England he wouldnt use Lea,just buy passage from Wilson who owned Angelo.Another problem is Eriks name.It could be Nielson,Nelson,Nilsen,Nielsen etc.I would have to see the manifest to see what name the purser entered. The person emigrating gave their name to the purser on the ship and he wrote down what he thought it sounded like in the manifest. Some also entered last name first Nilsen Erik so officials would put name as Nilsen Erik from Norway on their papers.I come across this all the time. Most of the time they put Nelson or Nielson ( no e )as a surname. Its a small world Lill!! I just read the history of the Parthia. The little ship that took the emigrants to Amerika 1870-1886 ended up here in B.C.Her name was changed to Victoria and she carried passengers from Tacoma,Wash. to Hong Kong, then took miners to Alaska in the Gold Rush of 1900. She worked as a passenger ship in Alaska till 1950.She ended up as a log barge here in 1954 but was towed to Japan in 1956 and scrapped.

Lill, heres whats happening. The passenger records for Boston are missing for 1880.However through a friend, I have found where they are and have requested a search for Erik and Ingeborg. Remember the Meh destination in the Kristiania list? Well, in 1900 US Census there is an Erik Nelson b.1859 Norway living in Minnehaha County in South Dakota, married to Johanna Olsen. If I get back the information from Boston I will let you know. Ron
