There ar 3 Skjelhaugen farms that I know of in Norway. One is Randsverk where my family lived around 1900. 2nd is in Tretan which is nit far from Vaage and the other is on the West coast.

Skjelhaugen I belive is a name that was given to the farm because of its natural geographical land barrier location. The explanation is that a Skjelhaug is a piece of land running down  to a  hill which is a natural barrier to separate pieces of land.  The Skjel does not seemingly refer to a Shale hill or a shield.  Thats what I was told by a resident from Vaage!!??
