Even,Petra Olava og datteren Pauline Leonora på Hamar. Hvor ble det av dem?

Recommended Posts

Erling Diesen

Bismarck woman celebrates 105th birthday

Associated Press

September 29, 2009

BISMARCK, N.D. - Amanda Klinger can remember when Bismarck and Mandan were not connected by a bridge, and people had to use a ferry boat to cross the Missouri River.

Klinger celebrated her 105th birthday Monday in a Bismarck nursing home.

She rooms with her 84-year-old daughter, Verdell. Her 91-year-old sister, Ruth Lindblum, also lives in the home.

Amanda Klinger's parents came to the United States from Norway. She was born in 1904 on a farm near Elbow Lake, Minn., before the family homesteaded in North Dakota the following year, living in a sod house.

She remembers growing up on the farm near Voltaire and later Turtle Lake, but farm life wasn't for her. She said she decided, "I'll never marry a farmer because I didn't want to live on a farm."

Klinger has 14 great-great-grandchildren. She says she feels great.

As for any advice, she says, "Live from day to day, I guess. That's about it."

Amanda Klinger, 105, Bismarck, passed away on June 28, 2010, in a Bismarck care center. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 2, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck, with the Rev. Chris Alexander officiating. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the start of the service.

Amanda (Borg) Klinger was born in Elbow Lake, Minn., on Sept. 28, 1904, the daughter of Evan and Petra Borg. Her family immigrated here from Hamar, Norway. They came to North Dakota and homesteaded in Ruso. She met and married William Klinger on Oct. 14, 1923, in Turtle Lake. On May 20, 1925, they gave birth to their only child, Verdell Klinger Collins. They moved to Mandan, where Amanda worked for many years at Foremost Dairy. They moved to Bismarck in the ’60s and she did daycare for many years for a special child, Jeffrey. Amanda lived on her own until her 95th birthday.

She enjoyed spending time with her daughter, Verdell, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles. Her favorite TV show was “Wheel of Fortune” She liked to read Reader’s Digest, the Bible and Enquirer for Hollywood gossip.

Amanda is survived by five grandchildren, Dennis (Landra) Collins, David Collins and special friend, Doris Benedict, Donna (Leighton) Swenson, Deborah Collins and William Collins, 16 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; four great-great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ruth Lindblom.

Amanda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William; beloved daughter, Verdell Collins; grandsons, Ron Collins and James P. Collins; great-granddaughter, Nicole Dionne; four sisters and three brothers; and son-in-law, James E. Collins.

Obituary:

Memorial service for Melroy A Syverson, 78, New Smyrna Beach FL who died Monday, October 29, 2012 will be 11:00 AM Saturday, November 3 at Trinity Lutheran Church 485 Turnbull Bay Road New Smyrna Beach.

Melroy was born in Turtle Lake North Dakota. He moved to New Smyrna Beach from Umatilla, FL. He was graduated from North Dakota State University with a BS and served our nation during the Korean Conflict in the US Navy. Some of his notable cruises were in Korea, through the southern hemisphere, the Aleutian Islands which included being at Eniwetok in the Marshall Islands November 1, 1952 when the first hydrogen Bomb was tested. He enjoyed antique collecting, traveling, reading and sports, especially college football. He was an avid NASCAR buff and UCF Knights fan. Mel held memberships at Trinity Lutheran Church, American Legion in Evan and Petra Borg, ND and the Republican Club.

In 1963, Mel & family moved to Titusville, FL where he began working at the Kennedy Space Center with Bendix Corp. In 1972 we decided to go into business for ourselves & purchased a Western Auto Store in Umatilla, FL. The boys adjusted well and all graduated from Umatilla High School. This was a good experience for our family. The 1970's proved to be tough for small business so in 1977 Mel went back to work at the Kennedy Space Center until his retirement in 1994. Jan also retired then from McDonnell Douglas Aerospace Company. Knowing we would be retiring, we had a lovely home built on 5 acres outside of Umatilla in 1990. Mel loved his acreage and worked every day to make it a beautiful place to live. Those were our best years.

In 2002 the five acres became more than we could take care of so we sold our home and moved to a townhouse New Smyrna Beach. What a change for Mel. Mel was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1997 and the cancer and medications slowly taking his life away. After 17 chemo treatments in 2009, he made the decision to not take any more treatments. He felt, the treatments were worse than the cancer.

Mel is survived by his wife of 57 years Janice, sons Timothy and Cheri Syverson of New Smyrna Beach, Terry and Marieanne Syverson of Scottsmoor, Brent Syverson of Titusville, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Oscar Syverson, mother Mable Borg Syverson Forland and step father John Forland.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia Flagler 3800 Woodbriar Trail Port Orange FL 32119 or Trinity Lutheran Church 485 Turnbull Bay Road New Smyrna Beach FL 32168.

Amanda (Borg) Klinger was born in Elbow Lake, Minn., on Sept. 28, 1904, the daughter of Evan and Petra Borg. Her family immigrated here from Hamar, Norway.

Hennes søster Myrtle Larson i Portland er kanskje denne damen som nevnes her?

Charley Larsen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1871 and died in Spokane, Washington in 1949. He came to America in about 1900 and landed in Florida. The hotel where he stayed burned and he lost all his belongings so he answered an ad in a newspaper for work on a farm. He got a job on a Johnson farm near Galchutt, North Dakota in the Red River Valley.

Pauline Johnson was born in 1881 and died in Spokane in 1970. She was married to Charles Larsen in Galchutt in 1902. Mr. Larsen went into the grain buying business and managed elevators at Dwight, Michigan, and Mapes, before moving to Dazey.

The Larsens had five children. Mabel, Leonard and George born at Galchutt, Myrtle born at Dwight and Ada born at Mapes.

The family enjoyed living in Dazey, where Mr. Larsen managed the elevator, was elected mayor, and had the Mitchell car agency. They lived in three homes in Dazey and sold the last one to the Torgusons when the Larsen family moved to Chaseley and later to Turtle Lake. They enjoyed electric lights for the first time while living in Dazey and they also had a radio with ear phones.

Mabel finished Dazey High School in 1921. She attended college in Valley City and taught at Wishek where she met and married Edward Cook. She lost her husband, her son, and grandson in a two year time. Her grandson, who was 19 years old and a friend took a ski lift to the top of Mount. Hood. He slipped and fell to his death. Mabel lives in Corvallis, Oregon, she has a daughter Jackie, and her son's family left.

Leonard finished Dazey High School in 1923. He attended the A.C. College in Fargo one year. Then he and Don Brewster went to barber school. Leonard married Mignon (Mixie) Osborne who also graduated from Dazey High School in 1923 and was a beautician. They lived and worked in Fargo and later lived at Cutbank, and Helena, Montana where they are still living. They have one daughter and their grand-children and great-grandchildren live near them.

George graduated from Dazey High School in 1925. He met and married Myrtle Borg while the Larsens lived at Turtle Lake. They had two children. George was a custodian in the Portland, Oregon School District and passed away there in 1977.

Myrtle also graduated from Dazey High School in 1925. She was a beautician. She married Donald Brewster, who was a brother of Bessie Larson of Dazey. Donald was a barber and Myrtle and Donald bought a beauty salon in a Fargo department store. They later moved to Burbank, California where Don worked at Warner Brothers Studio. Don passed away in 1961. Myrtle Refsnider lives in Palm Springs, California.

Ada married Bert Wieble from Turtle Lake, North Dakota. They had one son, Wally. She later married Bob Simmons from Spokane, Washington. Ada suffered from arthritis for many years and passed away in Helena, Montana in 1977.

From Turtle Lake the Larsons moved to Spokane, Washington. Martin Johnson lived with his sister, Mrs. Larson, and took care of her after her husband's death.
