I am hoping someone can help me find seaman's records for Carl Nilsen (b.1897) & Alfred Nilsen (b.1901).

Both were from Lier/Drammen.

I have found records stating that by 1926 both were in the USA so I am assuming that they were in the merchant navy and jumped ship.

Is there an index of seaman's registers where I can search for them or what is the best way to locate them in seaman's records?

Thanks.

Chris.

This should be Carl and Alfred in the name index.

Based on the name index, Alfred is easily found. When it comes to Carl, there is a question mark alongside his seaman number i the name index, obviously because the number is wrong. Number 5191 seems to belong to another seaman.

Thanks Kristian,

I found Carl on page 2 of the index. His nr. was 4605.

I am amazed at how much information is there.

I assumed they both settled in the USA but it seems they were seamen into the 1940's.

Looks like I have some work to do now transcribing.

Thanks again.

Chris.
