Kalseth Gunworks of Trondheim

Recommended Posts

Here are the two brothers Lars and Anders Kal(d)seth on the 1891 census for Trondheim

Anders married Olga Larssen, so she was a sister-in-law to Laura Amalie. However, I think she was also the sister of Laura (two brothers who married two sisters)

Thank you! This is so helpful! I have been able to use these as stepping stones to finding lots more information. I haven't been able to find out if Molla Bjarna and Haakon had children or information on Erling W Kalseth. He has nearly 100 immigration records when I use the USA-available tools showing he had entered the USA from tons of places including Cuba, Egypt, Iceland, Japan, Norway, etc. I saw on one of the records, which was unfortunately very blurry, that he maybe was an engineer. I am curious to know if this was his job in the USA military as I was only able to find him in the Norwegian military database but can't translate what his job was there. It seems likely this was his job in the US military, maybe with the Navy? I know this is where an uncle received his middle name so curious to learn more about him; if he had children etc.

Thank you. My father-in-law states he actually stayed behind in Norway and prospered so the Erling W. Kalseth that I am seeing must be a coincidence. It would make sense then that Erling died in Norway.

When I go back and double-check, the US records do indicate the same date of birth so this is interesting.

Have been able to find the son of Håkon (Haakon) and Molla Kalseth: Sverre Kalseth born 1943 in Trondheim. His occupation is dentist. Three children: Jenny (born 1974), Irene (born 1978) and Håkon (born 1984)

Source: Grong bygdebok 1-2

I have limited access to newspaper archives, but from the little I can see I understand there was only the son Sverre (My dear mother .... , not our dear mother ....). Her death was announced in the Trondheim newspaper Adresseavisen October 16, 2002.

Haakon/Håkon - both spellings are in use.

About Erling W. Kalseth who was a machinist I found this: https://www.sjohistorie.no/no/sjofolk/583985/

Laura Kalseth's death was announced in the Trondheim newspaper Adresseavisen 30.09.1961. So the year of death I found in the database Gravminner (The Norwegian find a grave) which was 1962 must be wrong year. I have limited access to the newspaper archive, but can see the following names: Alfhild and Olav Seim, Oslo, Julie and Sverre Kalseth, Chicago, Synnøve and Lars Kalseth, Hommelvik, Erling Kalseth, Oslo, Molla and Haakon Kalseth, Trondheim.

Thank you! All the records on Erling I am finding in the USA databases must be from his WWII duties. It sounds like he must have been a machinist/engineer on various ships transporting war supplies.

I will have to explore the sjohistorie.no site you linked to, as I understand grandpa Frode was in the Norwegian Air Force prior to joining the USMC. I have seen articles and pictures to indicate he was quite respected and am curiously trying to locate a person by the name of "Kane" or "Korey" who saved Frode's life, and is thus where several family members received their names.

Thank you so much for everyone's help! Your kindness is much appreciated.

The marriage between Sverre Kalseth and Julie Grostad you perhaps have already?

Hello!

I came across this page by chance and found a lot of interesting stuff here. Lars Olson Kalseth is my great-grandfather, and I found things here that I did not know before.

with regards

Bjørn Kalseth
