Dag,  Thanks.  

 

I will look at the map.  Trying to establish a link between Christian Christiansen, 29 June 1777, born to Anne Halvorsdatter from Neskilen (in Tromoy), and the family he was living with in 1801 as a newlywed.  Family had connection to Tromoy and to Neskilen.  They were also miners.  I could never find much on mother Anne, presumed she died and Christian became an orphan.  Perhaps knowing what Neskilen is a mine will help.  Looking at the Arendal that would put Neskilen beyond Lobbasen closer to Braastad?  Many years ago I had the idea the Christian was born in a mining community there, will have to check on why I thought that.

I see Neskilen on the map.  Much further East than I thought.  It is between Saltrod and Eydehaven?  I see the close proximity to Tromoy just across the water.  I had a misconception the mines were all around Lobbasen to the West.

I made some progress on Martin Nicolaisen.  If this Hovedrulle entry was translated properly it appears he jumped ship in New York in 1868 at age 20. His first journey as full seaman. Can't read destination of ship looks like Bassilon? brazil?

Probably worked out of New York for a while - and settled overseas or died.  Seems to have no contact with siblings who came much later 1883-85.
