I appreciate seeing this. I found other records that indicate WHB was in the military. I am not subscribed to any of those sites, so I could not get further details.I decided to back off from pursuing it.

The records give a description of WHB:

Eyes - Blue

Hair - Brown

Complexion - Fair

Height - 5' 6"

Dette er ingen nyhet.  Alle er nok kjent med "Rendezvous for vervede soldater i USAs marine, 1855-1891 - William Brown" og det er noe med det første som kommer opp ved søk på dette navnet.

Her er orginalen.

- may this pension file can provide more info?

I have my doubts on this one. The document looks like a Civil War Pension Claim for the widow Melissa A? Brown. The person is listed as an ordinary seaman and the ship is called the Sunflower. The date of filing is 1870 Feb 1.

I think that William H Brown of this thread lived longer than that.

I made no claim to it being new or news. I simply provided a personal opinion on appreciating what Gry posted.

This WHB enlisted a few times from 1858 to 1864, or there were 2 enlisting WHB

Details are lacking. That is why I went back-and-forth on this one.

One of my daughters-in-law has ancestors at ”every” farm in Tjølling, even Lingum, but that one is far back in time. She has taken a DNA-test by FTDNA. This test (Family Finder) can be transported for free to My Heritage. A well known family in Larvik with the middlename Bruun took the test some years ago and matched my in-law, but I can’t find them now, so they have probably had their tests removed.

if «your man» is from Tjølling, you will probably have a DNA-match with my in-law if you take a test by FTDNA.

Americans usually take such test by Ancestry, and those tests can be transported for free to both FTDNA an My Heritage. MH is the company with most tested Norwegians.

Thank you, Arnstein, for sharing that potential relationship with your daughter-in-law.  I will keep this possibility in mind!
